A particular emphasis placed on the correct stock length. You can get all sorts of fancy work done on it. But if your shotgun is going to be used by a female or someone smaller than you have to watch out for that. In general most stocks are too long for the general usage. A good test is put the butt of the shotgun on inner joint of your arm (the joint were you bend your forearm). If your trigger finger's first knuckle (from the palm of your hand) does not reach the trigger, then is too long. Saw it off, fix it. Please don't forget that body armour and thick clothing will affect your reach as well. Another point was that your significant other could use a 20ga with a youth stock.

This was from edsels report on his Lewis Aurbucks shotgun class.

So if Lewis says minimal junk on your shotgun then why are all the mall ninja's trying to find more real estate on their shotty's to attach more junk?
I think you answered your own question. Two words: "mall ninjas"

btw, reading that report made my brain hurt.

I really liked that movie.... still have it on VHS, might even have the DVD of it. Tonight after work I may just have to watch it.

              Here's the thing,

I have a nice trap shotgun
I have a nice simple HD shotgun

with the other half dozen shotguns that I have kicking around my collection, I will do whatever I want to them because:
              1) I can
              2) variety is the spice of life
              3) see #1

I've nothing wrong with anyone doing as they please, freedom of expression and the like. but one should consider that if the 'tool' in question hinders your ability to move, shoot, see, or enjoy using the rifle at the range, it's probably something that should be discarded. It's kinda like when those gang-wannabes wear baggy pants with the waist at mid-thigh and the crotch at the knee 'to look cool' but trip every 30 steps and can't run much faster than an old lady with a walker. One hand on the dipper-zipper and one hand on the crooked hat! Thanks you gang-wannabe for wearing clothing that helps cops catch you. That 'I just outta prison look and deez is the clothes dey gave me' suits you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's the point we're not seeing eye to eye on.

I have a limited need for tools, once those needs are filled, any extra tools become a toy or part of a tool collection.

if the tools are not particularly rare or collectible (mossy 500's or remmy 870's come to mind)

then why should it matter? If its not going to be used as a tool then it doesn't have to have the functionality of a tool.

I have home defense shotgun for one reason - put lots of lead balls into the badguys ASAP. If it furthers that agenda, it's good to go, if not fergedaboudit!
