I hear it blows up the back side of honeydew melons very well!

I couldn't find anything on it and that's why I asked above. If you've got a full-size handgun, I think I'd still with the regular +P (though they are in shorter supply right now).

Rich, are you using the short barrel 124 grain exclusively or the regular +P for your 9mm? Is your handgun a subcompact?

Simple. Add one more "mm" to the equation, plus a 200g bonded HP going 1300 fps. = the most effective pistol round in existence.

        XD9 Service 4" barrel.

I've never heard of the "short barrel" 124gr in 9mm.
I have read that the 135gr .38 +P is intended for snubbies, and the 125gr works well in longer barreled revolvers. I really suspect that it's a marketing thing. A +P is a +P, you aren't going to get more velocity from a 125 vs 135.... or from a 115 vs 124 in a 9mm.
I believe the heavier slug is to compensate for the reduced velocity from the shorter barrel.

Now, after having said that...I have seen just as many people killed with a FMJ as with hollow points. Regardless of caliber, good (or lucky) shot placement is mandatory.

I think everyone would agree on the placement, but I am curious if you have seen a difference in how many rounds were fired to end fight and difference in effects, hollow point vs FMJ?

The reason I ask is the point of the hollow point is that it causes massive soft tissue damage, and permanent cavity. So, theoretically the tearing damage and blood loss, not to mention exit hole if any, should be much greater coming from the hollow point, than a FMJ, true?

I understand without seeing the autopsy, you may not see all the effects, I am just curious if you were able to see a difference, or note if one was more effective than the other.

That question was asked to him and he stated the biggest you can fire, 147gr is what he would carry for a 9mm. He spoke of several multiple gun shots using 230gr .45 and the guy didnt go down unless a vital was hit (hip, knee head), so with a 9mm, the same is true. After his first no-1shot stop, he and his partner ALWAYS aimed for the head. Some of the stories he was telling were eye openers.

I will carry 147 JHP until I get some better real life data on 9mm.

this is like 45 minutes long but a great interview.

I carry the Winchester Ranger 127 +P+ in my HK UPSC 9mm home gun. I have fired into gel blocks with 115's, 124 FMJ's, 147 JHP's and this stuff. I just remember how this ammo impressed me more than the others (9mm only). We shot through glass, winshields and this stuff wasn't bad.
