So I was on the phone Saturday calling around and trying to find a store that carries some hard to find ammo and a guy at Bass Pro Shops in Rancho Cucamunga tells me that the upcoming mail/Internet ban on ammo only applies to handgun ammo and not long gun ammo!

What say you all?

Haave you read the bill? It only covers handgun ammo. MAny dealers are not going to ship any ammo to Ca though. It's their loss.

True: though nobody has actualy defined what handgun ammo is as it relates to the ban, so things like .22lr are in question.

I am looking for R700 in .300 Ultra Mag so there is definately no issue with this ammo as it is strictly rifle, however, I need it quickly for Internet purchase is no good as it takes five days to get here by ground.

They will only ship by ground as ammo is considered hazardous material and can't be overnited by plane!

notwithstanding that the ammunition may also be used in some rifles.

So, it really does not make a difference what gun you are going to shoot it from.

I would imagine if it's a caliber that is used in any handgun then you're screwed.

22lr is long rifle so that SHOULD NOT be counted at handgun ammo IMHO anyway...

IMHO .22 LR is fairly easy to get off the shelf anyway so this will probably not be a caliber to be concerned with!

The law states ammo that is principally used in handguns. .223 and 7.62x39 is NOT principally used in handguns. They're fine.

I agree that .22 should not be on the list, it's long RIFLE! Rifle is in the name! Damn lawmakers....
