The no-paper transfer is *only* applicable to rifles over 50 years old.

You can avoid the waiting period on handguns that are C&R eligible if you have BOTH a C&R license and a COE permit.

now if you buy the C&R handgun out of state, all you need is a C&R license- then fil out a form and pay $19 upon returning here to register it to you.

That basically sums it all up.

Anything pre-1898 is fair game for cash and carry in this state too. Other states such as AZ, NV, have pay-and-go for PPT transfers, but not CA.

I might be wrong about this, but half way between the East Bay area and Sacramento is about 35 minutes drive for both parties. Is that too much to ask?

I would transfer through FFL - if anything "bad" happen with/to the pistol (bank robbery, etc), then the seller is off the hook (CMA here).

If not, the pistol is still under the name of the original owner... potentail headache that you may not want to deal with.

Of course - IMHO.
