    Transfer question...

What is a "face to face" transfer and how does it differ from a regular FFL transfer? Thanks...

Face to face refers to a private party transfer. That is, a transfer of a prior owned handgun from one individual to another. In California, it means two California residents. Both parties must be present at the same FFL at the same time to complete the transfer. The gun is then transferred face to face (or hand to hand.)

Not quite- the gun goes to the dealer, than goes to the buyer's hands 10 days later
Same as buying a new gun from the dealer.

Also, transfer fees on a PPT should cost no more than $35 per the state.

... and a PPT face to face is exempt from "one a month" restriction.

Guess what, you are the owner of the gun when the DROS is submitted, not the dealer. The transfer takes place when the "Submit" button is clicked. You may not take YOUR gun home for 10 days. If you do the transfer at a range, you may shoot YOUR gun at the range, you just can't take it home with you.

But it still stays in the dealer's HANDS for 10 days. I didn't say anything about ownership

When I got mine recently, they had an indoor range, and while my buddy was filling out his part of the paperwork, Iwas putting 100 rounds through it...

I want to bring this topic back to the top for an important addition to the previously covered answers to Gary's question...

(Correct me if I am wrong here...)

It may - or may not - be obvious, but one critical feature of a "Private Party Transfer" or "Face to Face" transaction is that a PPT is the ONLY way someone in Californbia can still obtain a handgun that is NOT on the onerous DOJ "Not Unsafe Handguns" list! If it isn't on "The List" - a dealer cannot sell it to a CA rezident; the only way you can buy it is from a private party.

I don't mean to bag on Gary, but as he has a nice Colt listed for sale in the classified forum, and for his own reasons has included a "NO FTF SALES" provision, I think it's important that we consider the impact of such a sale. It effectively means this beautiful Colt will NOT be sold to a CA rezident, but will go out of state.

Chalk up another one for the anti's, I guess.

Just some food for thought, if you are thinking of selling. I shall now butt out.
