    Considering the Sig 556

I think its a pretty cool gun, and its made by sig... But I haven't seen anything on calguns about it. Is there something about it that I've overlooked, or is everyone just more into ar's and ak's?

Some people have them and like them.

I was tempted, but then I found they didn't have chrome-lined barrels.

Their barrels aren't chrome lined, they are nitrided which is a barrel treatment instead of just a lining that is used in the original Swiss Sig 55x series and mostly out performs chrome lining.

It's front heavy, but it's a lot softer shooting than my A/R.

I recall some talks of its barrel being too thin....

So you're telling me the finish on the outside of a Glock is supposed to be tougher than chrome lining?

Get on Sig Forum and see what they have to say, it seems to be a crap shoot of new production vs old.

There's A lot about the barrel, is there any way to get a chrome replacement, and as far as weight distribution, is it a major thing, or slightly front heavy? I have been looking for these answers elsewhere, but so far I've got crap from google and bing...

I make consistent 2.5 to 3 inch groups firing wolf 62 gr at exactly 385 yards on a nice warm day using 4x elcan specterDR(you'll need a riser mount for that). There is no kick to the shoulder like you get one from ar. Cleaning is a breeze although it's a heavy sob so don't plan any hunting trips with it. It does rattle and not as tight as ar but that is what makes it valuable. The sand falls right through it.

They haven't been popular in 3 gun which I use for a reference. I'd stick with an AR platform just a better gun than the Sigs in my book.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

                          Nitride is a chemical process.

Nitride used to create the finish on the outside of a Sig slide.

A Glock slide is finished in Tenifer.

The 556 is much more front heavy than an AR, but the different weight distribution, and the recoil system, makes for much less felt recoil than an AR platform.

Additionally, the 556 comes with the best 2-stage trigger I've ever felt on a production gun.
