    What a Shame!

BUENA PARK – Police evacuated City Hall and shut down busy Beach Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon after an elderly woman turned up with a carload of World War I era rifles and shells. The woman…

They can't get in the business of selling weapons, but they sure can call and harass me on the phone about making contributions to their various outreach programs. If they'd sell some of those firearms maybe my pockets would loosen up a little. Think of the children!

You would think the city would at least have them appraised for historical value.

Nice to see the police have no interest in preserving our history. It should be a state law that all historical weapons are appraised and resold to the public. I wonder what the collection included.

It seems to me that the police could preserve things like these without getting into the business of reselling the weapons. They could keep and destroy any dangerous/illegal items (like the "shells" and fuze, assuming those really are what they're reported to be), hand anything legal back to the lady, and tell her to take them to a gun dealer or pawn shop and get some money for them. The dangerous/illegal items would be destroyed, the other stuff would be preserved, the lady would make a few bucks to spend on her grandkids or cats or whatever, somebody would add to their collection, and the police wouldn't be reselling anything... everybody would win.

They won't sell them but giving them away to benefactors or having them stolen is no problem.

Such a waste. It's a little sad every time I hear about a legal fire-arm that can easily be resold being destroyed. People on a moral highhorse have no respect for history or financial responsibility.

The police don't want us armed, neither do the lib-dem gov. or media. Disarm and destroy any weapons they get their hands on seems to be the standard.

I hate reading this kind of stories. Those WW era firearms deserves better home in a museum rather than destroying them. I am in heartache writing this comment for those guns that will meet its doom.

Someone needs to put up a billboard that reads

Donate your unwanted history to your local Calguns group.

Sad that she didn't make a few inquiries at any gun shop, Salvation Army, Moose or Elks club, Just about anywhere else but the PD

Rather that shutting down the City Hall , they should have had the lady drive to the nearest open dirt lot .

You don't take firearms to the PD to have them resold, you take them there to be destroyed.

The PD won't "risk" those firearms getting back out into the public. They aren't in the business of selling firearms.
