I have one for each of my calibers. Makes cleaning a breeze! It doesn't beat a rod and brush but it does most of the work for me.

How do they compare with the OTIS cleaning system?

Great lazy way to keep most any .22lr running or any AR running for that matter. CLP liberally and a bore snake will keep you going strong at a training course for a weekend. Don't forget a toothbrush and a pick either.

I just use them to clear the bore prior to shooting.

They work ok. I just keep them in my range bag for a quick cleaning at the range sometimes.

Nothing takes the place of a good rod cleaning.

I think the Otis kit works much better because they use a brush and patches.

I use them for my shotgun, work fine.

I find they're a bit excessive for pistols since it's so easy to field strip them and shove a rod in there.

However the smell of your solvents will stay in the washing machine and will make your next couple loads smell of whatever you cleaned your guns with.

I like to use the boresnake as an alternative to dry patches. Use a wet patch on the bore, let it sit for a while, run a bronze brush several times to loosen the hard-to-get stuff, and then boresnake from both directions several times. Gets everything nice and shiny. Probably not quite as effective as using dry patches, but it's good enough for me.

Forgive my ignorance....is a boresnake a glorified pull through?

I soak bore snakes in Eds Red, and just leave a bit at the end dry. For a 17hmr, and one of my K31s, it is all I am using for the time being. I do a couple passes and call it. It is a little experiment.
