They work good. But they are not a replacement for a cleaning kit with a rod and attachments. I use the snake when I am out shooting. I also use it when I dont have the time to clean the guns right away. I do a few passes in the barrel and store them until I have the opportunity to do a complete teardown and cleaning.

Use them all the time, they do enough and get it cleaned up enough to work. Sure its not perfect and not a replacement for a full clean, but get the gun clean enough to work fine quickly and holds you fine until you have time for a real clean.

They work quite well. I use my rod and patches and then i do a couple passes with the boresnake through my AR's. If Im too lazy I just boresnake it. For my AK, all i use is the boresnake. Although make sure you don't use a worn out boresnake. I was making a pull through my AK and the pull string snapped and the snake got stuck in the barrel.

+1 on use for quick cleaning, not as substitute for good old cleaning.

            + for the bore snake

I find they work pretty well on semi-autos that you have to clean from the muzzle end. I use one all the time on my M1A, as patches with a rod seem to get caught up in the muzzle brake and get stripped off. Also, cleaning rods are probably responsible for more wear on the muzzle end of a barrel than any amount of ammo ever shot thru it.

I also use a home made 'patch worm' for 22LRs for the same wear reasons. Make them out of grass trimmer line that I heat up one end and melt into a button a bit less than bore diameter and point the other end to allow a patch to be puntured and slid down the line. Works really well and does no damage to a quality match barrel.

I take one in my pack when I'm in the field. A perfect way to clean my rifle if it gets dirty. As the others have said it's not going to replace a good cleaning kit at home...

Yep, use one on my usp to pre-clean. Rod/Patch/CLP right after. It's a pretty nifty tool!

Can you clean bore snakes? Some of mine look a little dirty and I'm a cheap bastard so I would prefer to clean em than buy new ones.

I hand wash my bore snakes by hand. I use dishwashing soap, warm water and run them thru a rag to help dry them and hang them until they dry. I have one in 7.62, 45, 12 gauge and 22.

I like them for range use and clean up after a regular cleaning with brush and patches.

Be careful about using the bore snake.

With the M1s more damage was done to the rifle by improper cleaning thank shooting.
That old segmented rod made a mess of the muzzle crown.

I ust the snake as a field cleaning or quick & somewhat clean method mainly at the range / hunting.

There's still no substitute for a firearm cleaning stand, the right length and type of cleaning rods, the right patches-brushes-picks-swabs-chemicals-bore guides and the right amount of elbow grease.
