Real hypothetical question

so I'm gonna assume that you are talking about what rioting would look like if the oscar grant trial doesn't lay down anything less than a murder charge (which it most likely won''t as IMHO it wasn't murder, more like manslaughter) and people get angry and start rioting......well it happened in oakland, so I'm gonna assume the riots are gonna start there. They might also be going on in LA and other major cities.

Being as I don't live in any major metropolitan areas....looting here is VERY unlikely as I live in an upper middle class suburb in a nice town.

So the most likely situation is that rioters would have to come here....which would take time, and again is highly unlikely.

But lets just say that on the EXTREMLY RARE chance that somehow rioters ended up in my town and are breaking into homes....my first action would be to get all our stuff, including weapons, and leave. One of the best defenses is to put distance between you and the threat. Being as its looters and not someone trying to take over the goverment....blah blah blah....just leave. If stuff is broken/stolen....thats what insurance is for.

So now lets take it one step further and say for some reason looters were heading our way...I'm gonna take my mossberg 500 12 gauge with 00 buck, load it up, grab my 2 handguns, load em up, and any other guns that I can find (I don't have an AR or carbine type weapon yet) and go talk with my neighbor, who is a former marine and has a few guns himself.....my thought is, if we band together, greater numbers and weapons means higher chance of survival. We will look for the best tactical place in both our homes and take up defensive positions that allow for a prompt retreat and offer both concealment and protection. Bunker down and gear up.....

Now IF THAT doesn't happen, its gonna be my mossberg 500 12gauge with 00 buck, and my handguns, plus my rifles to my stepdad, defensive positions, and give em hell boys!!!

But like I said.....if given the chance, I'd just leave. Thats my riot plan.

I have a 3 mag leg pouch for my Saiga I could throw on, I always keep an ok blade and flashlight on me at all times, and would use my holster for my G26 + 1 backup mag and would use my pants pockets for a couple extra glock mags. My rifle also has a sling and flashlight, which I think are important for that kind of situation. Though I will be surprised if this ever happened to me in my lifetime (not that one shouldn't be prepared).

This is one of the first real security/military defensive tactics I have read on here. My hats off to you jdewolf. You have either actual experience/training or did your homework. Funneling the bad guys to a target area +1. Wait until the verdict comes down from the BART Officer trial. If he's acquitted then some people may have to use some of these tactics mentioned here, depending on where you live.

How are you going to "funnel" them? They can come from all sides, hop fences, etc. I'm also assuming you have more than one entrance to your house/property. Best thing to do is lock all doors/windows, and respond to situations as they arise. You likely aren't going to be able to or need to funnel hoards of enemies into a canyon to mow them down.

As to leaving the area, that just feels risky to me. A lot of the people beaten were dragged out of their cars, so you'd have to make a conscious decision to mow people down with your car so you don't get blocked in. Whether or not you agree with that morally, you will surely damage your car. Plus I'm not comfortable leaving my stuff vulnerable unless it just gets really terrible.

I'm still with the camp that says, get a gun or two, stay in your home, and wait it out with a low profile.

It would be pretty easy. The entrance to my house is along the side. They would have to come down a narrow walk way. At that distance the spread of the 00B would cover it nicely. My fall back point would be right at my stairs which has a perfect line of fire to the doorway. I'd move the furniture and to further enhance the effect. Next fall back point would be the top of the stairs. After that it would be the furthest point from the stairs [again narrow hallway], which would be my room. If that got over run I'd have to bug out to the top of the garage and ninja my way the F out of there. I'd hate to imagine what the f' would be coming into my house at that point. There'd be a lot of bodies.

Ideally I'd love to have at least a 2 man fire team. From top of my garage there's multiple exits [to my room, to either side of the house, and to the front]. He could sit up there with the .308 and .22 and sniping along with some fire support if they came along the side of the house. Come to think of it some slugs would come in handy as well... 9 rounds of 00B and 4 slugs in the stock would be nice outdoors. I'd have time to reload the shotgun once I bugged out inside the house. The door is f'n sturdy.

To be honest I haven't put much though into it, but those what if situations always get me thinking.

Edit - I should say you are correct though. You need the know the lay of the land so to speak. It's not realistic in all scenario's, but for me it works.
