One more thing about this: you might end up with a round that won't expand, in which case why molest a perfectly good FMJ? Clogged cavity is one of the causes of a failure to expand.

Also, a cavity right on the front just fills with high-pressure air and acts a lot like a solid for aerodynamic purposes. There's a reason why hollow point match bullets exist for rifles. And they are usually very low drag bullets.

Wiki has some nice background info:

LOL, what is an expanding bu? Wiki doesn't seem to know, either.

I believe it is possible for the jacket to get stuck in the barrel while the led (or some of it anyways) gets forced out of the jacket.
            Amen.

M Sage is on target with this, too.

I might melt some 115gr .358 this week.
It's a pretty old Lyman mold that I haven't tried yet.
I'll be using wheel weight w/ a bit of tin. Maybe some lead roofing flashing to soften it even more.
Want me to send you a few to try, if they turn out okay?

those rounds look to soft to me it will not penetrate much. That's just how I see it.

The home made hollow points seems like a good idea for fun ammo shooting fruit etc.

Nice racks are much better. You can grab both sides of the rack to help stabilize while mounting.
