What ear pro (muffs) do you recommend?

I have been running some Surefire ear pro (EP6). I have been looking for some earmuffs that will replace (or supplement) the EP6. I prefer something not bulky and huge as I have a large face and a comfortable cheek weld would be desirable while having these earmuffs on. Money is no issue for the sake of my hearing but please no gold plated earmuffs .

Please leave a model and your experience (if possible) Thanks

I shoot shotgun and pistol, and am overly protective of my hearing, so I use Peltor Shotgunner earmuffs on top of Hearos Extreme foam earplugs (from Target, I think). It's a dirt cheap combo that works really well.

HEAROS Xtreme Protection earplugs has been a trusted protector in hearing protection and noise reduction since 1992, with over 400 million ear plugs sold!

The earmuffs I've seen with NRR >= 30 are massive and blocky and hit the shotgun / rifle stock, but the Shotgunners are thin and tapered, and are about as good as I could find to solve that problem. They are only NRR 21, which isn't great, but when you combine them with ear plugs, it's a good solution.

The combination with earplugs is very convenient in the summer when the muffs make me sweat. I can take them off during breaks without worrying about going deaf. Same applies for adjusting my eye protection while others are shooting.

I do want to try electronic muffs (with the Hearos) to help make it easier to hear voices and verbal range commands. I just haven't bothered to shop for low profile electronic muffs yet.

Wow I like how slim they are! How long have you used them?

Did you say "money is no issue"??

Then there's only one answer -- MSA Sordin Supreme Pro electronic ear pro!

The electronics are the best I've experienced, the battery life will remind you of Aimpoints, and they are very low profile. Add gel ear seals and you can wear them all day in comfort.

I use the howard leight L1 They're slim and cheap just the way I like my women. But seriously they work well 25 db reduction and easy to replecace if they get lost, stolen, damaged, or loaned out

I used to run the EP4's with L0F's. It is most definitely the slimmest setup you can get. The only problem I had was excessive noise reduction, even with the little noise filter unplugged.

I then picked up a set of Impact Sports to run with the ep4's - MOST AWESOME SETUP EVER.

They are the slimmest electronic muffs you can find for a reasonable price. It amplifies normal conversation, so you're not saying "WHAT?" & still blocks out loud noises. If you wear them around the house, you'll know what I'm talking about. You can hear EVERYTHING very clearly; I was rubbing my fingertips together & heard the sound of each little ridge on my skin going back and forth. I turn them all the way up and put them over my EP4's.

            Impact's

            L0F's

If you're in san diego, stop by Parallax Tactical and I'll demo them for you.

Forgot to add - The Impacts also have an audio port on them, and the outer portion is slim & curved, so you can get a nice high cheekweld on a rifle.

I have some of these Howard Leights too... they are solid, economical electronic ear pro, but they do not compare favorably (not surprisingly) to the Sordin Supremes. The electronics are not as good (i.e. audio processing), batteries run out more quickly, and I find that they sometimes interfere with my cheek weld. But for the price, they are a good choice. Since you specifically mentioned cheek weld, see if you have a friend with one or can check it out at a store to determine how it is for you.

I bought the Shotgunners on Amazon.com just over a year ago. At the time, I didn't want to spend extra on electronic until I knew what I wanted, and it was a good choice. My brother bought an expensive set of electronic muffs, but then later realized that they bumped his shotgun stock and would get pushed off during recoil.

Although I'm perfectly happy with my setup, if you don't mind paying a few bucks more for electronic, I would recommend electronic muffs as others have mentioned, as it makes it much easier to hear people talking without having to yell.

I think I'll review the recommendations above and order a pair of one of them. Thanks guys, saved me the work of shopping for low profile electronic muffs!

I was searching for more info on the Sordin Surpemes, and came across the info on Midway USA:

                            Two things surprised me:

                            1) The NRR is only 18. Is there that much of a difference between 18 and 21-24 for shooting?

                            2) There is one negative review indicating that the Sordins weren't durable enough.

For the money these earmuffs fell short. They worked great for about 6 months then the battery connections lost their hold on the battery and would shut off or not come on at all. My company purchased 12 pairs of these and so far 5 pairs have died within two years. I expected more for the money.
But, who knows how they were treated, and I assume two years of abuse by employees who didn't have to pay for them could easily destroy just about anything.

I'm assuming if they are taken care of properly, they will last a long time? They do have a two year warranty, so at least there is that.

If you want the ultimate cool guy unit, get the Sordin Supreme Pro X model. The Sordin Supremes also have an audio input, of course, (intended for tactical units but I'm sure you could plug in an iPod ). The X model also comes with a 5 yr warranty which the lesser model does not, and is also totally waterproof if you spend time in the field. It's only ~$40 more than the Pro IV, so should consider stepping up to it if you go with Sordins. MSA Sordin customer service is really outstanding in my experience.

Notice how slim they are at the bottom of the ear muffs! Good for your cheek weld:
