    Ear protection?

Have any of you aver tried these? I find earmuffs to be a bother and am looking into trying these? Will they protect my eardrums well enough?
The SureFire EarPro EP4 Sonic Defender Plus Earplugs gives you the ability to hear normal sounds and conversations while simultaneously protecting your ears from damaging sounds that get way to loud with a triple-flanged stem design that fits larger ear canals and provides a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 24dB.

That only has an NRR of 19. I wouldn't use it. 33NRR is the highest you can get for an earplug. Go to Aearo's website. Their E-A-R products have some of the best NRR ratings. Here's a 312-1223 (product number). I'm at work so don't have time to find the uncorded plugs, but those are available as well.

I've used some with a very similar design and they were garbage, let to much of the sound through, just slightly muffled.

If I want excellent hearing protection plus situational awareness, like hearing range commands, USPSA, IDPA, etc. I use ear plugs and wear electronic ear muffs over those.

Yeah, 19NRR is really low. Remember that hearing loss increases with increased exposure to loud noises, and it is never regained. Protect your ears or get used to saying, "Huh?" every time somebody talks to you.

            I like these....

For Comms at my side job we use something very similar to these but with a hole in the end to put the end of our earpieces in. They work really well, when I'm on the dance floor I usually have one of these in one ear to hear comms and the top on in my other.

I like em both, I never really liked ear muffs cause of them being on the side of my face and my hair and glasses.

              Horrible protection for the price!

You can go to Walmart and buy multiple foams for 2 bucks with NRR of 31-33.

I would imagine disposable earplugs are more comfortable. If you're looking for something long term, look into having one custom made for you. Shouldn't be that expensive.

I got these; they work great. You can usually find a company that does similar ones at the gun shows:

Actually I have found the opposite true. I hate disposable ear plugs...they are so scratchy!

I use these all the time and have no problem with them.

However, I will say this much:

                      1) I use these outdoors only
                      2) I use these for pistol work only

I tried these with my AR and damm nearly went deaf. When I'm running 3gun or near others who are using rifles, I use 31db foamies.

As far as ear protection is concerned you should go with SONIC DEFENDERS....they work great.......

A buddy of mine has these, they suck! Your better off buying a box of regular foam plugs. I use Radians or Leight foamies and both a comfortable enough for 4-5 hr range sessions.

I've gone to wearing muffs over foam plugs when I shoot. Nothing manly about going deaf.
