    Pistol Safes....Hows this one?

It was only $25 at Walmart. I was going to bolt it in under my closet shelf. I was also thinking about bolting it under my bed.

IMHO, if you can get a long gun safe, get that instead.

Better than nothing... but if I were getting a small one like that I'd consider getting an electronic one to use for quick access to a defensive gun. Then preferably get a larger, more secure safe for storage.

Also, looks like that one is key based... where will you secure the key? You'll need a another safe to store the key to your other safe!

The lock system looks realy weak on that one. Someone with a small pry bar and two minutes looks like they will get in...

It depends on your purpose. Safe from the kids? If you don't have much money, get what you can afford. I like the ones that go in the wall. They have them for long guns, between the studs in your closet.

Better than nothing. Just keep your keys close by.

I have had one for years I like a lot. It has a Simplex lock, 5 push buttons that you can set the combo for. Makes it easy to open in the dark, bolt it under the bed. I can reach down in the dark, open it, and have my loaded gun in hand in less than minute. All mechanical, so no batteries to go bad or keys to find. I think a couple of companies make these, the lock is the best feature. If I recall it ran me about a hundred bucks like roughly 15 years ago.

i would not be interested in this but... i am surprised at the low price for even a "cheapie" handgun safe.

I'm looking for something small to hold a hand gun and mags and that can be bolted down.

For $25 that cant be beat BUT I know with a simple prybar I could bend the hell out of it.

I think I'll keep it and look for a deal on something better. Once I find a better one I'll use this walmart one for my ammo.

Any suggestions for decent safe in the sub $100 range?

If you can pry it open (which this model can be done) with a medium sized flat head screw driver, it's not really a safe.
