Oh, I see what you mean.

As for handling the recoil, I've shot one of my .50BMGs without the muzzle brake, talk about recoil

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

I'll bet. There's nothing like a rifle that can knock you on your butt from either end.

And I had the blood to prove it. Scope cracked me right between the eyes. Even with the stock filled with lead and a bipod mounted. Still hit the steel and can't wait to shoot it again!
Sounds like you didn't shoulder it properly.

I've fired all 3. The DTC and BMG have very little recoil due to their excessive weight. Try a 50 cal in a 7 lb. rifle sometime. I've found the recoil is twice that of a Barrett.
The "excessive weight" doesn't do much to stop preceived recoil. An efficient muzzle brake does a lot though. I've shot an 18lb 50BMG on an AR lower standing and the felt recoil was less than either of my +40lb 50BMGs. Both of which have very efficient MBs.

The tactical scope I have on my AR has a short eye relief. Like 1 1/2" - 2" with my eyesight. My nose usually sniffing the charging handle. The darn thing felt just like my 5.56. It was force of habit to get too close to the scope on the beowolf. So much for consistancy...Live and learn!
I should add that this Beowolf had a flash suppressor. Not a brake. And I still hit the steel! Pretty mean... I want one...

come back when you shoot a .500 S&W magnum out of a revolver with a 2.75" barrel...

No way. US Optics all the way! (though Nightforce, Leupold MK IVs, Schmidt and Bender are all good too). Rings and bases alone should be $300. I have a strict philosophy on glass. You get what you pay for. YES, there are some very good $300-$400 scopes out there. But they don't quite have the resolving power of better glass; or the smoothness of the clicks as their higher prices brethren. . . and holy crap, what a beating a US Optics can take.

I've Shot one. The 8" kicks harder. the 2.75 is just loud.

thats awesome. i recently got to try impacto's Ferret 50 at angeles a few weeks ago. it was the first time i had fired a 'bolt action' 50 caliber. the recoil was suprisingly very acceptable and non-intimidating. infact i could have gone all day on it, had i the cash to do such a thing. however, the shock and concussion of the round going off, is something to get used to.

he actually did have a beowulf upper there too but i did not get to use it.

ha.. I shot that exact rifle (ferret 50). It was so smooth.. But, yes, that concussion was something to get used to.

I believe a handgun should have a barrel longer than the round they are chambered for.
I actually preferred the 454 Casull over the S&W Snubby. Better range. 360's are fun too!

Farrets are illegal in Ca. I don't know why, They're such cute little animals. Maybe their teeth are too evil looking.
Couldn't resist. That's a very nice rifle in the pic. If you get the chance to shoot the Beo, Take it! At what range was your target anyways?
