Any 1911 torture tests?

The only thing I do not like about the Springfield XD is that you have to depress the grip safety to manually rack and/or lock the slide back. Not a big problem on a 'Fair Weather Sunday' practice session. It's when you get into a high stress malfunction clearing situation with mud all over your grip and possibly grit stuck in that grip safety, all the while being shot at, makes the Glock my #1 choice.

Ah more then one's I am with you and so are the Israelis any other country or organization looking for a reliable handgun.

You've got to torture test your own gun to see really how reliable it is... but then after the test your previously reliable gun may not be anymore... so you've got to torture test it some more... and repeat.

Ok, I kid. Really 1911s are pretty reliable. The rep. for not being so is likely due to hobby-home-garage gunsmithing on them... it is so tempting to mess w/ your 1911. buy a brand name, combat model and keep it factory spec and I'd take it any day for reliability.

1911 Springfield had 1 feeding problem and a stove pipe.

What does you friend want the pistol for? Accuracy or Reliability? If he want the second buy a Glock.

Actually there's a torture test involving sand, mud, clay, running the gun over, firing underwater, etc etc of several 1911's. I remember one was a RIA, one was a Kimber, and I cannot recall the other makes involved. It was a file that used to be at the following location:

But is no longer there. I *might* have the article on my home PC, I'll have to look when I get off of work. At any rate, you'd be surprised at the results. Biggest issue with the RIA? The trigger got really REALLY heavy. That was it.

I have owned 6 1911s and still own 2. A Para p13, 2 Delta Elites, Kimber pro carry II, Which I have sold. I currently have a Kimber CDP Pro and a Eclipse Target II. All have had over 500 rounds thru them except the Eclipse which is the only one i bought used. Previous owner says he ran about 350 thru it. The para had a couple of stove jams. The deltas had more than a few, kimber pro carry had about 2 stove pipes. CDP during breakin has had over 10 FTF. The kimber eclipse has had no problems. All the breakins i have done with my 1911s have been done using factory 230gr ball. Except the Deltas of course.

I have owned a glock 23,27,30,32 and 2 17s Never had one jam during the time I owned them.

In my experience you should run at least 500 rnds through a 1911 before you test its reliability. Most of the 1911s i have owned got much better with time. Most of the problems starting to dissapear around the 300 mark and were mostly gone at the 500 mark with the exception of the deltas which always had problems.
