Another plus for the Mini would be that you can stick it in your truck with maybe 5 10 rounders and maybe 2 30 pre ban mags if you have any, and have a pretty sick SHTF trunk gun.

Also consider the Saiga .223... Much better IMO but its not to politically correct for the trunk and it might scare a cop to much if he ever sees it, mistaking it for an AK but if your not interested in a trunk gun, really consider the .223 Saiga.

I'm really digging that Choate hand guard. It makes the Mini 14 look more awesome. Guess I'll be ordering one from Midway USA.

Love the silver grey .... it's beautiful.

          LOVE the "coexist" logo.

I love both my Mini-14's. But I also love my ARs

AR's are great and I'm a lot more familiar with the AR platform than the Mini-14.

But as the above poster put it, I'd rather have a "really sick SHTF gun".

                You made the right choice.

If we lived outside CA where we could legally acquire "real" AR's that's one thing. But these CA legal AR's with a bullet button (what most people seem to automatically choose) is a non starter for a rifle and its intended purpose. The Mini-14 along with rifles like the Saiga or M1A variant are far better options for someone who is looking to own a legal and viable semi-auto defense rifle in CA.

If my main purpose for owning a rifle was shooting sub-MOA groups on paper I'd rather have a bolt action and a decent scope.
