    So I just fired a full-auto MP5...

... and it was basically the coolest thing I've ever done. I cannot stop grinning just thinking about it. I went to Markleys in Watsonville, where they had this Glock event/ sale thing going on. I ended up buying a 17, but that doesn't even compare to what happened next. As I was leaving, this familiar sounding cop announced that they were gonna let people shoot a machine gun. I nearly ran to get ear protection, went in the range, and sure enough it was this Lt. from the Scotts Valley PD who I've known for some time. He laughed when he saw me, handed me a 30rd mag to load, and after he ran a short little course firing at different targets, handed it over. My God. It was so much fun... its hard to even describe. Plus, I kept it in one relatively tight group (although it was pretty easy, I assume because its a 9mm)... I'm just stoked. To be able to do that for free, not even pay for ammo, and right here in CA, no less.... wow. Plus, though I've talked badly about Markleys in the past due to their AR policy/ attitude, everyone was really helpful, great prices... it was good. Today was awesome. The only bad thing is, now I want an MP5 of my own...
This may sound strange and unbelievable to you, but it is real and true.

Congratulations I wish I could fire a full auto. MP5's are nice but they're really expensive. I saw one used like new for sale in the FREE STATES for $15,999. For that size I'd rather just have an AR pistol or SBR.

We just got to shoot some full autos in my reserve academy. The MP5 was the best one for me. I want one too but I'll have to live in a free state before I can do that.

Well, really any full auto would be nice to have, but the MP5 was even more controllable than I would have thought. Even at $15k... is there any other MG that would be cheaper? Plus, it was so simple to operate, and lightweight too... really, a nice gun, definitely glad I had the opportunity. Perhaps one day it'll be legal here, or I'll be free from CA's BS... but I think I'd rather stay and fight.

Most of the subguns are in the 15 - 20k price range. There are very often Uzis, MACs, and some C&Rs going for $5-6K. Occasionally you can find one as low as $4K

Wow that's awesome, I was just there yesterday. Should'a postponed the trip a day. I didn't know Markleys wasn't EBR friendly, though I should have guessed never seeing anything of the sort for sale there. Who in the area is EBR friendly? (In the way of sales I mean.)

Did you call your mom to tell her too? I know I would have. I'm jealous. I wanna try FA stuff, but Nevada is just too far to go just to go ratta-tat-tat. Maybe if there was a M60 I'd reconsider.

I wish... I bought a bunch of tickets but didn't get a call. Plus, since I bought a Glock today, I wonder how DROSing 2 would work... maybe they'd just refund my money? In any event, the tix are good for tomorrow's raffle, where its another Glock and a sweet safe... looked like maybe 24 gun size.

No place in Santa Cruz sells them, but Outdoor World will transfer them for you. I did notice a single Stag upper in Markleys, though. hey might have had it for LEO only, but I don't know. They have been very anti in the past in regards to ARs, insisting that even if BBs were leagl, you'd have to top load. They refused to hear it any other way. Today, though, they were really cool, perhaps because I was buying a gun.

I would, but I'm out of shape, and some things in my past aren't too great in the mil's eyes. I actually went down and talked to a recruiter about a year ago, because I wanted to take the ASVAB. I took a sort of preliminary one, and scored in the mid 90's... he said with those scores I could have any job I wanted, including intel or if Navy, nuclear tech or something, and because of my prelim scores they might be able to overlook the stuff from a few years ago (no felonies, but still questionable) but I'm about 60lbs above what they'd accept for my height (6'1).

I actually did call her, because she knew the cop who was there.. she laughed. I know, I had always wanted to shoot one, but the prices I've heard in NV are absurd. This was totally random, I saw on their flyer that there would be MG demos, but had no idea we could actually fire them.

I wasn't really limiting it to Santa Cruz County. I was curious if there were any dealers down with the EBRs in the whole surrounding area. I guess within reasonable driving distance from Monterey County. (Couple hours or so.)
