What's stupid is that HSC instructors (certified to give the demo's and issue HSC's) are not exempt from the safe handling demo, from what I can find. Altho, I still can't remember the last time I was asked to do the demo and not just "sign here"

Now that I think about it, it seems stores might be slacking on the safe-handling thing. Ive bought 6 handguns and only recall doing the safe handling for 1 or 2 of them.Lol funny story. Yeah, I never heard anything about it. I took my HSC test a few months ago and the 20 or so questions on the test were the only things I was required to do. And the guy that did all the paperwork for my pistol didn't say anything about it. I guess the fact that I grabbed my new gun and took it inside the range and blew through a hundred rounds was proof enough that I knew how to handle it.

No, they are not exempt from showing their HSC card. They are exempt from being required to get a HSC card in the first place. LEOs, Military (I think), CCW holders, Guards with exposed carry permits, etc do not need a HSC card or to go through a safe handling demo.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

I have had demonstrations for all three of my handgun purchases. A snub nose .38 at a kitchen-table FFL, a .22 pistol at Sportsman's Warehouse and my Glock at a local gun shop. I usually have to do it for every third transfer. It is such a pain in the ***. Especially the places that get all serious about it. Anyone who knows gun enough to work in a gun store should be able to tell by the way you handle the gun while looking at it if you are safe or not.
They really like it when you check your saa by rolling the cylinder along your are to check to see if it is empty.Comment
