WOW! With lever action rifles being so popular in 30-30 back east, I'm amazed at this news.

Hopefully someone buys and moves them to friendlier states.

Glad I got my 30-30 lever and 45-70 Guide Gun when I did.

      Same story?

Guns, dogs and home alarms. Opponents are all of a sudden advocates once their personal space is violated.

            i'm sad

the trends suggest that all we will end up with is arclones being manufactured

and we will have to get all our cowboy guns from china and brazil

So the thrust of a couple other news stories I am seeing is not that Marlin is ceasing operations.... it is being relocated to another state. My first guess would be North or South Carolina.

AP story here... emphasis is mine.

essica Kallam, a spokeswoman with Madison, N.C.'s Remington Arms Co. Inc., which owns Marlin, said the Connecticut plant will close by June 2011 and employees would be offered severance and help finding jobs. She said Marlin is relocating its manufacturing operations to an undetermined site.
This quote from the OP article says it all....

“The situation appears to be compounded by the fact that Connecticut is a difficult state for any manufacturer to sustain its business model,”
Wait until S&W moves out of Massachusetts.........

Of course it is also quite possible that the corporate parent, Freedom Group, is trying to consolidate operations and trim product lines down to what is profitable. 11 million + Model 60's and how many million 795s come immediately to mind when thinking profitability. I'd wager that several of the lever gun lines will be trimmed.

Marlin are to relocate to a new facility in NC. Apparently, Marlin is the highest tax-paying company in CT, and relocating to NC appears to be a cost cutting exercise to remain competitive in the market place. Remington (who has owned Marlin since 2008) is based in Madison, NC.

I'd been telling myself to put off purchasing a 336 until later in the year... guess I'll be trying to acquire one sooner.

Edit: Oops, never mind. That's what I get for not reading to the end before commenting.

I sincerely hope Marlin does not disappear. For the price, Marlins have always been a good buy. I love my model 70 22LR, I wanna be sure I can still get parts for it in the future.

I read the whole article and can say I'm going to try to get that 45/70 I've wanted. Reason being they're could be a chance ones marked made in conn will be sought/desired later down the road.

This is just sad, I hope it doesn't spread to other fine AMERICAN firearms manufacturers.
