I'm a blingy kind of guy

Totally gonna go with techplate. Still debating between gold and TiN finishes. I'll have to talk to them, they're the experts. If I can get TiN just as shiny I'll go with that and just call it gold. Noone has to know...

After I plate it I think I'm gonna have a custom alligator-skin sling made. You probably think I'm joking, but I'm not. I'm just that creative/insane.

How did the gold hold up? Is it difficult to maintain? I want a show piece but I plan on shooting it fairly frequently. I don't want to have this thing replated every year...

I actually researched and considered it. I didn't want to risk a gun with amateur plating though. Plus, plating improperly can cause embrittlement, which, when dealing with something designed to create a controlled explosion, scares me a lot. I may get a kit just for plating magazines, though.

Miss him all of the time, we worked on many projects together especially custom Ak's in 24 ct gold, bright nickel, triple plated chrome, and my favorite "Black Chrome" (like the 50 cal Desert Eagles).

I believe the only place on the west coast that I know of is (with an FFL) is TechPlate in Anaheim California.
Sorry to hear about your brother, looks like he did some amazing work. A gold plated AK pistol in definitely on the short list, but I do want to shoot it like I stole it.

Also, should I gold plate or TiN it? I have heard that TiN is lower maintenance. How much work is it to keep a gold-plated gun looking nice? How durable is the finish? Will the gun shoot without destroying the finish? Any different with TiN? Experiences? Stories? So many questions, I know...
          JM, please don't do it. It's too....pimp.
