    Gold Plating

I want a bling AK soooo bad. I know about half of you probably hate me for it, but a little help would be nice. I was wondering what everyone thinks of Techplate. Do they do a quality job? Also, should I gold plate or TiN it? I have heard that TiN is lower maintenance. How much work is it to keep a gold-plated gun looking nice? How durable is the finish? Will the gun shoot without destroying the finish? Any different with TiN? Experiences? Stories? So many questions, I know...

LOL dude that would be cool. Im surprised that nobody has actually tried to market a gold plated AK. While its not my sort of thing I think it would be pretty insane to go to a gun range and pull out a BLING gold AK. make sure you do the mags also.
The only problem I see is inside the workings the gold will flake. I guess you can do just the rifle if you remove the wood and have all the pieces separately gold plated then put it back together.

Hah yeah I was gonna have it professionally disassembled, polished, plated, then reassembled. I read around a little and techplate is looking pretty good. Apparently buying the gun and plating it is a decent investment; if you can find a buyer you can often sell for more money than was put into it. I just want it for me though, probably because I'm a bit eccentric and I want something that will stand out. I'm so excited for this...

I think overland industries does gold plating but they're in az. they used to be on here and would do ak builds. I think they're still in business, give them a call

Overland Industries is still in business and doing very well. Overland Plating (my brothers company) is no longer in business, he fell over dead from a massive heart attack in late July of 2009.

Miss him all of the time, we worked on many projects together especially custom Ak's in 24 ct gold, bright nickel, triple plated chrome, and my favorite "Black Chrome" (like the 50 cal Desert Eagles).

I believe the only place on the west coast that I know of is (with an FFL) is TechPlate in Anaheim California.
