If you search around the handgun forum you'll find lots of answers...
I've never seen a glock that doesnt like pretty much all types of factory ammo. Buy whatever is cheap and learn the basics of pistol shooting before worrying about ammo choice for the moment. i've successfully used a combination of MPRO7 and BreakFree for all pistol cleaning needs... -
Who advised you to buy a Glock?
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...
I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Congratulations!Hi all, i just bought my first gun a Glock 22rtf. I will be getting it on the 23rd, hate the dame 10 day wait. Anway, what brand ammo should i buy, i just want to go to shooting range and get good at it, and what oil should i use to clean it and stuff. any help or ideas would help, Thanks for reading.
I have two pieces of advice for you.
First, get the book "How to own a gun and stay out of jail" the California edition and READ IT while you are in the 10 day wait. No, seriously, do it. You'll thank me later. There are a million pitfalls and you can have your gun rights taken away forever due to an innocent or careless mistake that you never would have dreamed would be a problem.
Second, don't go to the range and just start blastin' away. Like the previous poster said, take a basic handgun class. For starters, you will embarrass yourself displaying your obvious lack of knowledge about proper safety and handling (and maybe get booted from the range). Also, without learning how to do it right, you will just institute and reinforce bad habits that you will later have to unlearn. Start out doing it right from day one, and to do that you should take a class. "Point, click... how hard can it be?" is what many first time gun owners think. There is far FAR more to it than that. Time and money invested in a class is the best investment you will ever make.
To answer your question, the brand of ammo you buy is honestly not very important. They should all go bang and for targets at the range just about anything should do. Winchester or Remington are usually widely available. The range I frequent carries Magtech. Just check and make sure the bullets are copper jacketed... your Glock should not be used to fire plain lead projectiles. But then you knew that from reading the owner's manual, right?Last edited by bruss01; 03-20-2010, 7:51 AM.The one thing worse than defeat is surrender.Comment

+1Take a basic handgun class. They'll provide the gun for you too.
I'd recommend that you take a class BEFORE going to the range alone. If you want, you can take your new Glock to class with you. They will teach you the basics of handling your firearm safely and accurately. They will also probalby be willing to show you how to clean and lube it.
btw...congratulations and have fun!Comment

+1 with what Bruss01 had to say. I purchase my first hand gun several years ago but only recently got more involved with hand guns. Anybody can go the range, point and shoot and I realized I started to get the bug and bought more guns, went to all the gun shows, etc. I soon realized there was a lot I didn't know. Take a handgun course. One of those two day courses or even consider Front Sight 4 day outside Vegas. Friends can't teach you much and bad habits are hard to unlearn. Just like playing golf, lessons will go a long way. Biggest difference is this is a firearm and you want to learn it right the first way. The book he mentions is good as well. Best $14 investment to educate yourself. I would also recommend Boston's Gun Bible for $22 on Amazon. The better educated you are the more fun and safe shooting will be. I also have several Glocks and the 22RTF2 is my favorite. You'll have a great time. Now if only the the Gen 4's would get on the list I'd swap out all of my Gen 3's

Nothing like getting taught about guns first hand. Let us know where you live so we can recommend some good courses. Trust me, I still go back to what my pistol instructor taught me four years ago.
Those fundamentals will help improve your shooting and save money on ammo.Comment

The best ammo deal is Blazer AL ammo, but some indoor ranges won't let you shoot them, so check your range. Use breakfree w/ CLP or Rem oil for cleaning/lube.Hi all, i just bought my first gun a Glock 22rtf. I will be getting it on the 23rd, hate the dame 10 day wait.
