Ways to secure weapons in house

Hey Guys, Im in need of some advice:

Im rapidly expanding my firearm collection, and in terms of storage I dont have a safe or anything of that nature.

Im finishing up college within the next 3 months and with all the theft/break in stories im hearing I would go ape**** if anything was stolen from my current residence.

With that in mind what type of safe/storage solutions would you guys recommend?

Bear in mind

-College student = limited disposable income
-Space is somewhat of an issue, as im living in a house with roommates
-In terms of moving out to a new place it would be nice if it wasnt a pain to move.

You really need to get a safe or move most of the guns to a more secure location. It is irresponsible to leave unsecured firearms around ROOMMATES. You should buy a small gun safe for handguns and leave the others in a more secure location like your parents house in a safe.

let me rephrase that, my guns are secured by trigger locks etc. so theyre safe from roommates.

my question pertains more to securing them from potential theft by someone breaking into my house, as the theif can just snatch the weapon and worry about the lock later.

At the very least you should buy a metal gun cabinet that you can secure to the floor/wall. They don't cost much and can help deter theft.

I'm not sure if they're still available but Lowe's was selling a Liberty Safe Centurion 12 for $300 a couple months ago. I bought one and put it at my parents place to store my long guns. I have a small safe at my apartment for my handguns.

A safe is your best bet, but keep in mind that to properly secure a safe it needs to be bolted down and even then a safe can still get broken into. A safe will guard against quick grab n' go thefts, but if they really want it they'll get it.

Really this seems a little odd. For the price of pretty much one gun you could afford a decent safe to secure them. I am sure you are not alone though.

I don't mean any offense to you or your roommates, but I think your guns need to be secured to prevent theft anyone, INCLUDING you roommates. Not saying that your roommates would do something like that, but a friend of theirs might. With roommates you don't always know who's coming in and out of your house.

Get a gun cabinet for now, you can bolt them to the wall. You can get nice ones for under $200.

Skip one gun and buy a safe. My first one was about $500 from walmart and worked until last year. The second one was the costco Sentry deal from last summer. I'm good now.

Check tractor supply company in addition to watching costco sales.

I didn't read this whole thread - but it sounds like the stack-on cabinets are the way to go for you.

Disclaimer : They're not going to stop a thief 100%, or provide fire protection.
However, they are DOJ Approved, are able to be anchored to the floor or wall using some pretty hefty bolts, and will give you some piece of mind.

If you look around, you can find 'em relatively cheap.

thanks for the advice guys...the one at Lowes seems pretty promising, I also went on craigslist and found a few.

as far as the cabinet goes I think that may be easy for a theif to just take a crowbar to and pry open...

If you have guns get a safe. Even a cheap one. 3-500$ is about the price of a used decent handgun or rifle. If you have anything over 1200$ in guns you should protect your investment. Living with roommates is a PITA but you need to protect your investment. Start some searches and you will see that everyone who posted on here abotu a break in has had their guns stolen. Most of them were all not in a safe or the safe is open.
