    Denied on DROS!!

First off, please excuse my vent, but this is ridiculous. As the title says, I was denyed on my DROS for the Glock27 I had hoped to purchase. I received notification from the gun store today, complete with a letter stating it was due to DMV verification issues. Here is a brief synapsis:

Last month, my driver's license expired. When I went in to renew it, I also started the paperwork for my Class B permit (and paid for both). Upon passing my permit test, I was informed I needed a full medical exam before getting issued the permit (commercial license). Fast forward one week, I have my medical exam, return to the DMV, and get issued my permit. While it is printing, the clerk informs me that I will not be receiving a new hard copy of my class C license, and that I will have to just carry it with a paper temporary license until I complete the process. WTF ever, fine, just give me my permit, see you later

A week later, I decide I finally want to jump on that G27, so I head down to the local shop, money in hand. While doing the DROS, I let them take a photo copy of my photo id (expired 2 weeks prior), as well as the paper license with the information showing it's paid and I'm legal. I also offer my passport, but am informed that only CA issued ID counts. Three days later I get this letter saying no-go on the sale

I called the DOJ today, and the lady was a resounding *****, and after explaining my situation, she told me I don't have a 'valid license'. I told her that I did have a valid license, I can legally drive, I just won't get an updated hard copy until I finish my class b drive test (which is delayed as local DMV scheduling is backed up 3 weeks). She tells me tough chit, either get a new license or an ID card, or no guns for me.

At this point, I pleasantly tell her to have a nice day, hang up, and return to the DMV. Once there, I encounter another wonderful woman with an axe to grind, and try to explain my situation. She tells me that California law is that I can't be issued two licenses. I tell her that I just want my Class C license, I only have a B permit. She tells me that due to renewing on the same day as my permit test, they won't send me a license unless I complete the B or cancel the process. I ask her if why, and she again says because I can't 'have 2 licenses'. I then ask her if I had a valid class c and took the permit test if they would take my license away, to prevent this issue. She glares at me and says no. She tells me to either get an ID card, or finish or cancel the b process to get a hard license. I leave happy as ever once again.

Does this seem ridiculous to anyone else, or am I just skewed? I can't buy beer, a gun, verify CA residency and legal drivers status for job applications and testing, or anything else unless I "cancel or finish my B", which is fine if I had 2 GD months to not need any of this! FML

Yeah not surprised by this, if your paperwork is not perfectly in order according to DOJ's standards...

If this seems confusing, just read the George Carlin quote in my signature and reflect...

Uh why don't you just get a California ID card? Not a drivers license but just an identification card.

Because the ID card costs more money to the DMV, takes 2 weeks, and still doesn't verify my driver status for employment purposes. Plus it makes it look like I have a DUI...

I'm not sure how it makes you look like you have a DUI. Care to explain?

                        FUD!!!!!

Every time you upgrade you DL the DMV punches little holes in your old one, so you can use it for Photo ID along with you Temp Paper Print Out.

At least they did this for me every time I upgraded my DL. Went from a Regular Class C to a B to A and then got my A and M. I did this at different DMV locations throughout the State as over the last ten years I moved around quite a bit.

Who get's ID cards aside from those that never had a license, or those that get theirs revoked?

I call FUD on your FUD!

I have a CDL class AM1 TPX. I also have a CA School bus drivers license. I have never had a hole punched in any of my expired or older licenses whenever I upgraded class, endorsments, or just renewed. I have four of my old ones to prove it.

Even though you still have the old license to go along with the paper temporary, it is still not considered valid ID to many State agencies simply because it is expired. The OPs dealing with the DOJ are an excellent example of that. It happened to me many times.
