Have any of you that have done PPT had to buy a locking device from the dealer used? Just curious if that's another way they profit rom PPT?

yes, at two different Turners.

One of them said that if I brought in a receipt for another lock when I picked up the gun, they would "credit" me the amount charged, but they had to charge it.

The other one really pissed me off. The guy, who was a jackass knowitall, said I had to buy a lock at the time of the dros, I showed him the receipt from the other turners and he said I had to have the lock with me then, which I did not since I wasn't picking up the gun for another ten days. He said the lock had to be put in the safe with the gun. Just not correcct and ridiculous. But it was a sunday and I had no where else to go in the area. so I just paid the 5.99 plus tax

On the other hand, the very next day at still another turners, they just made a copy of the receipt, said fine, and did not charge me for a lock.

That would be considered theft cause the old owner is no longer the actual owner of the gun.
Sort of you sold me a car but I have no driver license. And now you want your car back. its no longer your car. not a exact example but hopefully you get my drift

I understand what you are saying, but I was just posting what Turners policy seems to be. Fortunately, I have not had to argue with them about it.

Yep, kind of dicey business practice IMO. No need for a lock until it's picked up. For buyers that haven't purchased a lock or filled out the safe affidavit (long guns only) I provide a lock free of charge when I receive firearms that don't have one. I get the free locks from the Sheriffs Department or local PD. They are perfect all around use locks that fit pretty much any firearm and are on the approved list for generic cable locks. If that ever runs dry I'll simply ask the buyer to get one or show me a receipt dated within the last 30 days.
