Bay Area indoor range

I'm looking for an indoor range somewhere in the Bay Area. The only one I have been going to is Targetmasters and the environment isn't exactly the best. Do you guys have recommendations for a place that feels "safer". I hate how there are a bunch of wankstas renting guns without half an idea how to operate a firearm.

I see a better quality of client during the day. Evenings are a little scary. Plus, during the Happy Hour, it is $5 to shoot.

Reeds Indoor Range in Santa Clara is a much nicer place. You pay more ($16), but you can see and breathe the difference.

I'd also recomend Reeds. Shooting conditions are sooo much more comfortable and enjoyable than Targetmasters.

I've actually haven't found them to be anything other than polite and nice.

I was there on Saturday and there were some wanksters at the gun counter, but they weren't renting or shooting on the lanes.

Last time I was at Targetmasters I saw a bunch of hoodlums come out wearing doorags. I don't want to judge but whenever I go to the range I try to bring the least attention to myself as possible.

targetmasters is good durning happy hour. I go there all the time for happy hour and I am out the door for 6 bucks. If there are turds shooting when I am there I just ask if I can get on a different bay than them.

Jackson Arms in South San Francisco. Good guys there and reasonable. Not too many hoods go there..SSF is a no nosense place..SSFPD will give you a attitude adjustment should you need it..

TM staff is better, Reeds has a better range.

Wish they could trade staff, then I would go to Reeds again.

What sort of "incident" if I may ask? The first time I went there was with a very experienced shooter friend and they were really nice to me even though neither of us had been there before. The guy I talked to offered good advice for what to be looking for as I shot the guns I rented (which were all on my "short list") as well as just being nice. The other two times I've been there to shoot my own gun they've just been no nonsense, but I haven't asked for any advice. I did get some cleaning advice from the guy behind the sales counter.

What sort of "incident" if I may ask?

Well, I have two stories.

The first, I can only say I saw first hand. Years ago, when in the academy, we went to the range to help a few improve their scores. The typical cop jokes were tossed around with us there, in our BDUs. Nothing bad, but a few took offense to it, and didn't want to return. I didn't really care. Most were young kids getting their kicks with a gun on their belt.

The second, the one that ended my Reeds visits, was with my father. A retired officer. He was presented the form to sign with the rules, he read it, and returned the form, signed as request. The 'kid' (always the young guys seem to have issues) returned it back to my father and said 'try reading it buddy'. Well, it sounded a bit rude, but that wasn't the biggest issue. The kid decided to rest his hand on his weapon, while tapping on the form, telling him to 'read it this time'. If I did that in uniform... it would be considered 'threatening'.

Dad tells the kid to take his hand off his weapon... as it is not acceptable... kid has a comment... dad says he will just leave. A older gentleman that worked there tapped the kid on the shoulder and said he would take over. Was very polite... apologized for the other kid... and asked if we would stay. Wed did, never saw the kid again after that.

I just find the staff to be unprofessional and rude. It was 4 years ago... they lost my business. If I am doing indoor shooting, I go to TM. I go to shoot. But I normally shoot outdoors more than anything.
