The ammo just doesn't last

When I took my new P2000 (my first handgun) to the range for the first time I took two boxes of ammo with me. I figured 100 rounds in a hour was reasonable. Yeah, I left after 45 minutes and that was with a bathroom break.

So tonight I took a 3rd box with me. It didn't last that much longer.

Some are suggesting this is a sign that I've got the disease. I guess I just have to take my time.

Depends on what type of shooting you're doing. If you're doing defensive drills/IPSC run n' gun type drills ammo is expended pretty quickly.

If you're shooting for groups, you're shooting too fast!

Congrats on your new H&K, it's a fantastic gun. Take your time and focus on that front sight. It's fun to make noise, it's even more satisfying printing some nice groups.

Yah, 100rnds aint enough. When I got my FNP9 the first trip to the range I put 500rnds through it and wish I had had more. The next trip with my two sigs I went through 750rnds. Whats next 1000. I can't afford that.......

i think you are firing way fast.... but then again i'm a slow shooter since i have to mind my costs.

I used to shoot like that, then I realized I couldnt afford to go to the range anymore.
So now I take my time, stretch it out, talk to other shooters, and try to not go crazy on the ammo.
Another thing I started to do was to bring one of the .22 rifles and shoot a couple hundred .22 rounds just to stretch out my other ammo.

slow down and shoot for accuracy. i used to shoot a whole bunch like you, but feel much more satisfied when I come home with a paper with my best group to date

I discovered the joys of a good, accurate bolt action rifle. Now I bring 40 rounds of .223 out with me, and often go home with some left over.

100 rounds will last me 2 hours or more. Mostly chatting with folks about guns, helping out new shooters that want it. Funny thing is I only shot 50 rounds the last time I went and I was there 4 hours. That has never happened before I sill had a good time.

Sounds like you hold a steady point and then empty the mag in one string of fire. Fire one or two rounds then lower the gun, breath than fire another one or two rounds. This will teach you trigger control, help to control fatigue and shrink your groups. Not to mention stretch your trigger time out. Dont think its a competition with other shooters on who makes the most noise. You will notice the "show off shooters" as I call them blast away fast and have a group the size of a car trunk. I have no problem with others who shoot like that but thats not good training. When you shoot at indoor ranges where targets automated, your shooting time will go allot faster that going to an outdoor range where there is a ceasefire every 15 minutes or so. Picking up your brass will slow you down to. Even if you dont reload, save it in case you will want to get into reloading or sell it to someone who does. "Happy Shooting"

May I reccomend only putting 3-5 rounds per magazine. you'll be surprised how that will drag out you range time. I can spend 2 1/2 to 3 hours with just 100 rounds for my PX4 and 100 rounds with the AR.

it really doesnt. Used to put hundreds of rounds through my p220 per session. Once i noticed it was getting a bit heavy on the wallet i looked into a 22lr. Ended up getting a bolt action 22lr. Its been a real money saver. On several occasions ive spent hours at the range and had gone through less then 150 rounds of 22lr

When I practiced for bullseye pistol match, I deliberately shot 1 round per minute. It taught me discipline on sight alignment and sight pisture and the entire fundamentals of shooting. Once you have the fundamentals in you, it becomes easy and you can shoot at your own pace.
