.....that's funny; I've been shooting there for more than a decade and continue to shoot there after my buddy sold the range to the current owners a few years back and I never heard of exposed lead ammunition being prohibited. I put a ton of all lead projectiles down range there.

I go to insight about every other week, experiences have been great. I have always brought my GSG-5, never had a problem. Like others said, only pistol caliber, up to .44 mag. If a shotgun has a pistol grip, it has to have a buttstock. The only AR I've seen people bring are the .22lr ones.
Ventilation is pretty good, at times, it can get cold.

now safety wise, most of people go there know the safety rules, however, once awhile, there will always be a guy who will try and show off to the gf with his horrible rapid fire (not allowed) technique. The rangemasters will inform shooters via a intercom. but if someone is being really unsafe, as in pointing the gun in a direction other than downrange, they'll warn the shooter pretty quickly. Overall, pretty safe, but still keep your eyes open though.

I have had nothing but good experiences the handfull of times that I have been there. They did get on me about the "no exposed lead" rule though. All in all it has been a good place to do business for me, whether I am shooting or doing PPT's.

Must be a recent policy the new owners enacted; do they say WHY they won't allow exposed lead? Quite frankly, it makes little sense to me as most FMJ handgun bullets have an exposed lead base.

I'm a regular at Insight, I've been going there for close to five years now, as it's directly on my route from work to home. Anyway, I keep going back there because I always have a positive experience there. The owners are friendly and courteous, in contrast with a few other places I've been. Their prices are reasonable. The range itself is clean, well-lighted, well-ventilated, the target machines all work properly, and the majority of the customers I've seen there seem like cool folks (no gangsta thugs - mostly).

They only allow jacketed ammo, with the exception of .22LR
(I believe it's less of a health hazard than lead bullets) and they don't allow you to pick up brass. I believe the latter is a fairly new rule, because I remember when I first started going there, some guy was picking up brass and got in an argument with another shooter that the dude was picking up HIS brass. It wasn't a heated argument or anything, but I could see where some reloaders could get really tweaked about it. Another time, the owner (the elderly Korean gentleman) was sweeping the ejected brass up, and one of the shooters objected with a similar complaint about it being "his" brass - to which the owner simply said - "you gotta pick it up right away, cause I won't wait for you to pick it up."

Thus it seems sensible that their simple solution to any such problem would be that brass that hits the floor belongs to the range. So, if you want to keep your brass, bring a revolver.

They also have a pretty good selection of handguns for rent and for sale. I bought my RIA 1911 in .38 Super from them and got a great price. When I tooky coworker there for his first time shooting, we rented just about every 9mm pistol they had there, as my friend was in the market for a handgun. No extra charge for renting multiple pistols, except of course that you could only rent one at a time.

As far as the GSG5, heck I met fellow Calgunner judoguy there when he was shooting his GSG 5. Honestly I don't think they care what type of gun you bring as long as it's a .44mag or smaller (and also no centerfire rifle calibers). So I suppose if you had a REAL MP5 in 9mm, you could shoot it in semiauto mode.

Are they pulling that you can't pick up your own brass crap again? They stopped that practice it seemed after a major backlash. The no exposed lead bullet thing has been going on for some time, may not be being enforced too hard, who knows?

I think they only sell 20 and 12ga birdshot at extremely high prices so bring a 16ga or .410 or you will be forced to buy their ammo.

I think they have pulled some ppt funny business before also but overall I have not had a major problem there in some time.
