Just curious, some of you say you store them in "locked" ammo cans or boxes...

Why do you lock your ammo up inside your own house?

In a burglary, wouldn't the thief just grab the cans/boxes, and bust into them later, at his leisure?

And if it's not for that reason, are you afraid that someone in your household will get into your stash or what?

I have little relatives running around in my house, I wouldn't want them to get into the ammo...it is lead, and who knows what they can end up doing with it...smart kids get into all kinds of stuff they shouldn't be in due to exploring.

Keeping them in a box that is locked up, is a safety precaution against something that we wouldn't want to see posted in a news article here.

I'm not worried about someone stealing my guns/ammo. I keep my mags loaded and in the safe, and if I have to use more than that, I probably have a bigger situation and am probably jumping out of my window to safety.

Besides, I wouldn't want people thinking I'm some honky tonk redneck uncivilized person with ammo lying all over the house LOL!

I order ammo from Cabela's and they throw in the plastic "field boxes" (a bit larger than 50 cal ammo boxes). Not a great seal but it works. Throw in dessicant packs and you're good. I ordered 24 Master locks keyed the same (extra just in case!) and I lock them for the same reasons as others have stated. Just makes it a little harder for people to get into them.

Ammo is expensive and hard to find locally, so I keep it all in the safe. I'd be very upset to come home and find my ammo has been stolen.

I got tired of finding spiders in my motorcycle gear that I kept in the garage, so I put together one of those white 48" wide storage closets and put it in the bonus room just off the garage. I keep my helmets, jackets, etc there and the bottom 3 feet or so is all ammo in the original boxes.
