FYI: Transferring Small Guns in LA

Well, you can't: if you have a small gun (mouse guns we're talking here) you can't transfer it in the city of LA and have to go outside, to either Ventura or Burbank/Glendale/Pasadena to complete the PPT.

    Now you know.

I don't know, I was surprised. Apparently it's an LA county thing, such as printing for ammo and the like.

The gun was a mousegun, about the size of the NAA .22s, maybe smaller. 25 acp.

Actually it's a totalitarian Los Angeles City Council and LAPD terrible management thing. Oh, I'm not inferring that the county doesn't have terrible management, it's just that they haven't enacted such a worthless and ineffectual law that deprives non-criminals.

It's an L.A. City ordinance. I believe it was proposed in early 2001, not sure when it passed.

I am pretty sure the size limit is 6.75" x 4.5".

This is not just for PPTs, this is for sales. For example, Turner's in Reseda (within L.A. City limits) will not sell nor will they PPT guns that exceed these measurements. They have a piece of paper with the rectangle drawn on it, they will take a potential PPT firearm and lay it on the paper to check size. Obviously, they don't stock any guns under these dimensions either.

There are independent incorporated cities within L.A. City limits that, although they are in L.A. County, are not subject to this ordinance. Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena and San Fernando come to mind.

Rettings in Culver City would be exempt as well then.

That's exactly where this was: Turner's Reseda. How is Reseda in the City of LA? Surely in the county?

This **** gets confusing after a while.

It just is - just like Valley Village. Technically, these small "towns" are merely districts of Los Angeles. The municipalities of Burbank, San Fernando, etc. have their own PD, court system, jails, small gov't., etc.

Very interesting. The worker at Turner's Reseda did suggest Ft. Courage or Turner's Pasadena or Gun World to complete the transfer. I'm actually shocked to say I had a good experience there.

You mean at Turner's Reseda? I'm actually not surprised. I like it there myself... plus they are really close to me. They don't always have the most interesting or large selection, but that seems to be changing with the new ownership.

Yep. Pasadena also surprised me. The guy over the phone told me, "Well, we close at 6, but we'll do everything in our power to complete your PPT on time."

It was shockingly good. Plus they had a bunch of AR and AKs around.

You know you are in the city of LA when the street signs are blue.
When they change color, it's because you have momentarily left the city of LA and entered another municipality.
I believe this works all over LA city.

Yes,this is true. some people get attached to their community names and forget that they live in the city of Los Angeles.
