      In CA there is no duty to retreat if life/limb are in danger. CA is ahead of other states in this area - which is, in effect, 'stand your ground'.

          This was told to me (and others) by Don Kilmer, who spoke at length about this.

            In northern CA there's too much chance a missed shot might hit a homeless person or a bum standing in the intersection trying to beg for $$$.

            Besides, he has as much right to the car as the driver does in fact, he has a greater right because you - having bought the thing in the 1st place - have the ability to replace it and go on with your life. The bum - being a bum - has already demonstrated that he can't get a car by legitimate means so his only recourse is to get one by any means available to him.

            This wouldn't be a problem if you valued people more than your precious possessions!

            As silly as that sounds, I guarantee there are folks in San Fran who think that's absolutely straight thinking.
