I negotiate on special orders keeping in mind the fees to have the same firearm shipped from out of state to my CA FFL. I've never been asked to pay MSRP.

I negotiate on everything. Learned in from watching my grandparents haggle.
The things I learned that are most important are what most other posters said:
Price compare, be discreet, have cash on hand or certified check, talk to manager/owner, buy on slow days.
I am the primary person in my family that does all car negotiations as well as big ticket item purchases.
Gun shops are easy to haggle with because there is so much wiggle room in thier pricing. The best bang for your buck is on used guns. Dealers mark those up so crazy it's like they beg you to challenge the prices. New guns are tougher but I usually get free SD ammo or holsters as bonuses.

Hell I negotiate the clerk when buying groceries. I know this steak is marked 4.99 a pound but... the marbling is that of 2.99 steaks at other grocery stores. Or do you do price matches?
