Gun Shop Negotiation

If a shop is high because they did not buy it right I may cut them some slack... But truly your selling stuff you need to know if you have good prices. If you have bad prices I say get ready to get stuck with old inventory...

I know a local shop who still sells black rifles at $1500+ and in most cases I can build them for $800 (I am all for mark up) Buuut that is too much.

Uh... You do know the clerks don't set the pricing at gun shops.

If a clerk at a gun shop starts negotiating a price on the guns that don't belong to him he is going to have to trade his job in retail for one that requires him to say "welcome to McDonalds can I take your order please."

Retail Prices are set by Owners controlled by MGMT not by "Clerks." Again, am I missing something here?

No wonder gun store clerks are so pissed off all the time; they continually deal with the mentally "challenged."

Most gun shops don't and won't do much negotiating. They don't make much profit from the sale of guns, accessories/ammo is were they make their real money.

Also, most gun shops know that someone will eventually buy their stock; unless of course it is a gun in an idiot caliber like .357SIG or something.

I don't have to haggle. I have a job that pays me a decent salary. If I can't afford something I either don't really want it that bad, and I probably don't need it.

good for you and your decent salary job. i never pay sticker price for anything that i didn't have to. and i will continue with this mindset until i die. i work hard for my money, and i will actively try to keep as much as i can when i need to make purchases.

Depends on the product.... If it's available from multiple sources, there is always room to negotiate....

I think it's just like with other businesses. If the seller/owner is a decent guy, and you buy from him regularly (even if it's a box of ammo here and there) and send him business, there's a good chance he'll give you a decent deal at some point without you even asking.

Dude I'm happy for you that you can afford to spend money without blinking an eye at the cost. I also make a very very decent living and I will always ask of there is a discount on something I purchase. EVERY dollar that i keep in my pocket allows me to do other things. Call me a jew (LOL although im not) call me whatever you wish. I have absolutely NO DEBT to any credit cards, no vehicle payments, 2 paid off houses and money in the bank. How do I have those things? Because I question every bill I get ask for discounts when do get them (eg. i had time warner. bill went up. called they said the plan I was on was only for a first time customers so i asked if I can stay on it. they said no. I made arrangements. I saw their promo again and I called and asked if they woudl switch me to that promo. they again said no its for new customers Now Ive been a time warner customer for abotu 2 years at that point paid the bill on time never late or non pay. I explained my case. they still refused to lower the payment. 2 weeks later I switched saving myself 40$ a month from the old to new billing with ATT. And guess what. Time warner calls and sends letters with a we want you back promo this and that free this and that. LOL peobably will never use time warner again)Thats 480$ a year savings. basically 480$ a year in my pocket. maybe you can afford to spread the wealth but I rather keep my money as long as i can. , and switch companies if they wont discount somethign they scvrewed up. If you tell the vender you want to pay with CASH it can help a lot. The last gun I bought I got out the door for the sticker price including dros and tax. Probably could have got it for less but I like the owner of the shop and I always feel like I'm shorting him since he's always worked with me on the price. Being a regular certainly has It's advantages.

One other thing is I don't haggle with him in front of other customers since they my be willing to pay full price and the shop is in business to make money not give away guns.

i have negotiated with dealer before but have tried not to be demeaning or rude. i have never tried to negotiate a lower price when it already was a screamin deal; if it already was a great deal and i was a bit short i have asked for layaway and occasionally extended layaway. when i had one dealer i dealt with exclusively in the past i never asked for any price drop because he charged me only slightly over his cost; i did do extended layaway with him though and he was very generous about that. that was during a time where the gunshop was a place to sit and bs about everything and stretch the truth just a little bit about your life exploits.... those were good times when the gun shop owner was also a friend and begged you to stay for another cup of coffee, and knew you were broke! here is remembering you e. mark felix....

I always thoroughly enjoyed going into Mark's shop in La Puente. He always had many interesting things to show me, and for me to spend my money on. Even being a younger buyer at the time, him and his dad would still shoot the breeze with me and share their knowledge. I still visit Mark at his shop in Vegas, and I plan on paying him a visit tomorrow.

You guys should know that you can haggle ANYWHERE ANY PLACE. Me and a buddy went to Circuit City back when they were still in business and haggled a $400 TV down to $320. Believe it or not the sales person has the power to lower the price as you see it. No one really knows this or even tries it. Last year I bought a 50" LCD TV from Circuit City and the sticker price was $1199 on sale. I told the guy that I would take it right now for $1100 out the door. He had to talk to a manager and we ended up shaking on the deal.

Probably why they are no longer in business.

This may come as a surprise but lots of people work hard for their money and they deserve to be "compensated" for their work.

The guy who doesn't want to pitch in for the keg but isn't shy about floating it...

The guy you give some money for a food run and you don't get your change back...

The guy who "whoops" "FORGOT" his wallet when you are out to dinner etc;

We differ significantly. I don't create wealth by hording or trying to cheat other hard working Americans out of a decent living. I make my $$$ because I have the talent and work ethic to do so. As long as those are in place the money will ALWAYS BE THERE.

What you and others fail to see is that you are not the only ones entitled to make a decent living and have quote the "American Dream," "The Butcher, the Baker, the Cabinet Maker" and anyone who gets up everyday to put an honest days work should be compensated for doing so. The mentality of it is all about me, me, me is why this country is so distraught with greed and gluttony. Everyone trying to get over on one another at every turn- it is kind of sickening in a lot of ways. Luckily, I am blessed with the talent to succeed in this Country without trying to short change others out of the American Dream at every turn.

BTW it is only money and you can't take it with you.
