To the OP...that guy would be dead for multiple reasons; not the least of which is a complete inability to keep fire effectively going the same way.

And...it is acceptable to see the mag into your rifle, to confirm your mag is going where it's supposed to, as hopefully you're behind adequate cover and/or have cover fire while concealed (and for the IDPA guys...yeah there is a difference between cover & concealment). In the above video, SSG Travis Tomasie of the AMU looks his mag in to the magwell EVERY time and his reloads are easily under .7-.8 seconds.

I think the newer style of banging the mag out with the fresh mag is the way to go. Just like the newer style of charging an AR with the one side grip instead of the rabbit ears style of old. Better fighting SOP.

The "newer" style has been done by Kurt Miller for about a decade or two.

I don't know why you guys are getting bend outta shape on whos faster or he'll die cuz he's to slow.. You cant always keep your eyes on the target while reloading.. Especially if your out numbered.. Reloading without taking cover is only a match thing.. In combat, trust me, your going to take cover while reloading..

Well, when you are taking cover you still arent looking at your gun, right? You are looking where you are running.

You still need to maintain situational awareness...you may have to look at your rifle but don't focus on it to the exclusion of all else. Hopefully everyone has read and learned this lesson from Paul's story: http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=38540

Great (and tragic) Story. When I served we were also trained after changing the magazine, replace it in your pouch and carefully close the fastener. I remember training with a unit who had actually seen combat and they showed us how to throw them inside our smocks ( I don't think they had decided they were disposable at the time and possibly still haven't..).

Hopefully in the last 6 years they really changed the training manuals.

+10 on that. No one wants to be in the open when reloading in a gun fight. Even idiots...well...maybe not them, but sane people will.

Amen to that. Keep in mind that it's probably safe to say that most folks on here get their military training from XBox.
