I hate to break it to you but your dog sitter probably cares less about the safe and more about what is in your refrigerator.
        There ya go.
I'm taking your advice and that of others that said the same thing.
Lock-em up and go have a good time.

I think I might hide some of the single malt though.

I can't believe nobody has said it; I'll watch'em for you

Just lock the room the safe is in. It's better if they don't know it's there.

The op said that this was not an option in an earlier post.

Another added to the "did not read the OP" list.

From the OP: "As much as I like you guys, I wouldn't let you "handgun sit" either, mainly because you are not my personal friend."

I guess my attempt at commenting on how lots of calgunners ignore what you post was lost.

I'll be sure to not attempt humor in the future...

if I worried about people stealing from me every time I had someone come to the house to do some work I woudl be at home 100% of the time hugging a shotgun and talking and answering myself in 10 different voices.
Put your gun in your safe ( make sure its bolted down) or if its small hide it somewhere and go enjoy your vacation. youre trusting that person to watch your dog and your house. if you cant trust anyone then go take your dog to a pet hotel and go on vacation.
Worse comes to worse bury the safe and put dog poopie on top of where youburied it. I dont think anyone will go near the area.

Many years ago when I was young and poor I often kept my 1911 safely "stored" at the local pawn shop.

Disassemble it. Put the slide under your pillow, the barrel in the can of coffee, magazines inside a hollowed out book, and the frame triple zip-locked and burred under the kid's sandbox out back. Anyone who gets lucky and finds a piece will simply have a handgun part, not a working gun worth stealing.

And you can go away on vacation worry-free. Ahhhh....

Now if it's a revolver, then maybe you gots something to worry about. Still, with a bit more effort the grips, FCG and cylinder should come off. I know they do on my Ruger revolvers.
