    Gun show rules?

Is it ok for me to be carrying a rifle on my back to a gun show? (Costa Mesa) Provided that it's CA legal and everything. I've done it many times, but there's always an ignorant douchebag who thinks I'm going to shoot up the place and confronts me. I see people with their ARs too and some with WWII gear on with a M1 garand, but I'm always the one having to deal with an idiot walking to the gun show.

Most gun shows will check your weapon at the door and secure the action to make it inoperable while you are at the show. It's perfectly legal for you to stroll around with your rifle on your shoulder.

Exactly what I thought, but some ignorant *** said this to me yesterday:

A guy in an Ed Hardy shirt comes up behind me and says, "Hey, why do you have a loaded clip in there?".
My reply, "First of all, it's magazine, second of all, just because it's in my rifle, it does not mean that it is loaded."
Him: "Well how could I tell if it's loaded or not and that you aren't going to shoot up the place?"
Me: "It's not loaded not only because it's stupid, but I have to check it in first before I can even bring it into the gun show and they will not let me bring in a loaded weapon."
Him: "Well, you would be expecting some return fire from ME if you were to do anything."
Me: "I'm going to a GUN SHOW and the people there also have GUNS and would have me riddled with so many bullets before I could even slam a loaded magazine into it."
Him: "Well, you better be careful."

He didn't even have a CCW pistol on him or anything gun related, and looked like those *******s driving a bimmer around with his head up his ***. He was just being a dick in front of my girlfriend for no reason. Has anyone else ever had a problem with a douchebag like this before?

The main difference at a gun show is you cannot have ammo for your gun. This is a separate from the normal 12031 loaded definition.

Having 'loaded' magazines in your possession with a gun that shoots that caliber is a no no.

You think you know, but you have no idea.

The information posted here is not legal advice. If you seek legal advice hire an attorney who is familiar with all the facts of your case.

Thank you for stating which law is related for me, I was trying to find it and it wouldn't come to me.

The shooting hobby is full of asshats like this one, sadly.

In the future....keep the clip vs mag comment to yourself. Sounds like you were baiting him. The proper response is "no sir, this firearm is unloaded ... It's a fixed magazine"

Yea, I could have been more patient, but I just got there after a 5 hour drive from Vegas so my patience was a little thin. Not to mention, he just came off as an a-hole from the start

Sounds like he made a threat to shoot you? Advise security?

He wasn't security. Ignore him and say your going to the gun show. D-bag convention is that'a'way

I was thinking about it, but it seemed more like an empty threat to me so I didn't want to involve them.

Those who are afraid of the truth always seek to suppress it!

I'm curious as to why you want to wear your rifle on your shoulder at the show?
