So.................... a pretty normal day. Well, at least for this place. These two guys come in and rent a couple of Glocks. Let's call them Harry Johnson and Richard Head. Dick seems to be the brains of this outfit.

It was a very hot summer day. One of those days where you don't stray too far from a fan that's cracked up full blast. Most folks know that the blasters should be benched when not in use. If they come out of the booth the action should be locked open. It would seem that these two didn't get the word.

Dick is standing behind Harry gun in hand. Dick's hands are wet from sweat and the Glock slips from his grip. He catches it before it hits the deck. In doing so he caps off a round and hits Harry in the butt. Harry came very close to getting his vocal range raised several octaves. The round was a through and through and hit the 8 ring on the down range silhouette. The only decent hit they got that day.

Dick comes rushing into the lobby and he exclaims that he just shot Harry. I asked Why. He said he didn't mean to. I asked were Harry was and then noticed him limping towards me. I called 911. That should be the ranges area code BTW.

It was a long time before I saw the two again. They asked if I remembered them. Who could forget. I also asked if they wouldn't mind shooting each other some where else.

Dick says, you mean like in the arm or something?

One of the strangest things I've seen here was on a busy weekend. A Japanese tourist walked down range and hung a target while everyone was shooting. By the time I saw him he was half way back so I couldn't get there quick enough to do anything. I just watched in amazement.

The bone heads on the range either didn't see him or more likely didn't care. Everyone continued to blast away. How he survived is beyond me.

Heh, Japanese tourists don't understand the range directions that well. Over at SGVGC, a couple went strolling down range as soon as the rangemaster said we were clear to commence fire. It wasn't until I started yelling at them in Japanese that they turned around... you shoulda seen the look on the one guy's face as he turned around, then grabbed his buddy by the collar and sprinted back to their booth, dragging him backwards.

The crusty old ex-marine rangemaster asked how come I didn't just use it as an excuse to see how well my DE 50cal would do on 'em... he observed he'd been on the Pacific front in WW2, so I guess he was a bit biased.

I just got off the phone with a distributor who was concerned about a rifle that we had received last week. UPS tracking showed it coming in. He said when the customer called we didn't seem to have it.

I asked around and this is what the guys told me.

                          Ring ring.

                          Good morning, Sharpshooter.

                          Is my rifle there?

                          What kind of rifle?

                          I dunno.

Do you know who it was shipped from?

No. I think it was someplace back east.

Do you have any paper work that might be of help to us?

                          I'm not sure.

The guy just called and chewed me out for not knowing if his rifle is here or not. I think trigger locks may have a significant increase in price just before he arrives.

$40.00 sound about right? We call it stupid tax.

Yikes! I almost forgot about this one.

I know you've all seen this. Sometimes when a novice shooter unloads a semi auto the tend to bring the pistol across their body. The muzzle would be pointing to the left if their right handed. In this case it was even more extreme. The pistol was actually pointed up range at a shallow angle.

Yep you guessed it. He let's one go. A round of 45 ball. The round's trajectory is up range at about a 30 degree angle. It enters the lobby after blasting through a door, and slams into a soda machine. The range was busy and we didn't hear the impact due to the volume level.

You know the comedy skits were some one fills a washing machine with a 50 pound bag of soap. It was kinda like that. All of a sudden the coke machine starts foaming. I mean really foaming. Foam is coming out of the chute and the coin return. A lot of foam.

We're just looking at it with a WTF look on our faces. It might seem strange if it happened anywhere else. but that's par for the course around here. The customer came out and fessed up. That proved to be a very expensive round of 45 ACP.

Heh... you didn't happen to work at Iron Sights at the time, did ya? I've heard a soda-machine story from there, but not details.

Nope, Can't say I'm surprised though. It's all coming back now. It's like going to a turkey shoot and realizing that you're the turkey.

I hate it when that happens.
