Taking a friend shooting (has no ID)

Hey guys,

I wanted to take my friend shooting but he has no ID, though he does have a passport. I was thinking Angeles.

Is an ID or a license a mandatory requirement? Will a passport suffice? What do I need to know??

Most ranges just need a form of government ID with picture, name, date of birth, and an expiration date. It is always best to call and ask.

I've never been to a range that required ID?? You don't need one to shoot in CA if that's what you're asking.

Angeles doesn't ask for I.D.

Odd they ask for ID at both ranges I have shot at down here in San Diego they take everyones DL that is shooting in your party and hold on to them till you are done.

I've been asked it once before and I didn't want to take the risk inviting them down there and finding we can't shoot.

Just curious. Is your friend's passport a US passport? If so, it is government identification issued by a government more solvent than DMV.

Yeah, it's always fun to see if a club will take it as ID!

Were you asked at an indoor range, by chance? I find indoor ranges typically want to keep your ID, and the outdoor ranges don't care.

Indoor yes, but also at Angeles during the paperwork portion.

I don't think that's a legal requirement. I think it's just a range rule. I for one know that DGM will gladly take a passport unless you're trying to rent a gun.

The only time ID is required is on your birthday for the free shoot, or if you look to young to buy pistol ammo.

Look into ABC law. Passports do NOT have a physical description and are therefore not legal forms of ID to buy alcohol. BS, I agree, but when a liquor store or bar accepts a passport, they're are in violation.
