What causes a gun to explode like this?

Barrel obstruction for sure. Scarey stuff. I bet the M16 fired an uncharged round prior to the jam. The guy messed with it enough to get the next round to chamber.

Those guys looked like they got real lucky (although couldn't quite tell on the shotgun).

What I want to know is where that range is at in the bottom one. That's a nice looking firing line.

1st video could be an obstruction in the barrel or a over charged round, since many hunters do reload...hard to say.

2nd video hard to say..I'm GUESSING wrong size round for the rifle.

3rd video,, the rifle was allowing several attempts to tell the shooter something was wrong but he kept trying to cycle a round..my first though would be to split the upper and lower and take a peek down the barrel & inspect the bolt. If the shooter was lucky, he may only need to replace the upper....IF

3rd video is clearly an overcharged reload ammo. Around 1:00 they talk about who was reloading.

1st video could be anything, most likely barrel obstruction. I do have my skepticism about that video as the video guy didn't have problem taping the rifle instead of worrying about his friend. But also notice that there seems to be rain.

I think the AR 15 ammo (if in fact it was reloaded) probably was not re sized properly. The case being too large to chamber without using the fwd assist to mash it in far enough to get the bolt into battery. FYI- if you ever find yourself needing to use the fwd assist to get the ammo to chamber, stop and analyze the situation 'cause something is not in spec. and injury/damage is just around the corner!

The shotgun video looks like the barrel separated from the receiver. If the barrel wasn’t seated all the way in or the barrel nut was off I bet it would break apart the way it did.

Lots of things can cause a gun to blow

1.) Not performing routine maintenance or replacement on key parts. Always get a new AR bolt with each barrel OR 10K rounds.

2.) Too much rifle powder, or the loading of pistol powder into a rifle cartridge by accident.

3.) Barrel obstructions

4.) Not checking casings (on both reloads and new ammo) for defects. ALWAYS take 3 seconds to inspect every round you buy. Could you you lots of trouble!!!!!!!

If you stop motion the video, there it is discharging out of the top of the receiver. Would it do that if the barrel wasn't properly seated?
