    UK Zero Tolerance

I wonder if it will ever get this bad here

That is one of the most retarded things I have ever heard (well, read anyway). Doubt it will get that way here. I don't think we could ever "Britainize" the U.S.

It would seem they prefer strict liability to strict scrutiny across the pond. It's a small wonder so many of them move here.

Ya think? Check out Theseus' case.

Britain went from "common sense" gun laws to "zero tolerance" gun laws (and other laws) fairly quickly. We went from "it's our right" to "common sense" gun laws in a matter of decades. If/when the "common sense" gun laws really take hold (as in we stop actively questioning them), it'll be fairly quick to get to the "zero tolerance" laws.

That's what they say about Californians in the rest of the country. I wouldn't jump to conclusions, but rather try to prevent that from happening here. After all, it all started with "common sense" gun laws, and that's where we're at right now, as well.

Though the guy was found guilty for the possesion of the firearm by law, I doubt he will be sentenced to time in jail/prison, due to his intent to do right.

All this is going to do is encourage people to KEEP any firearms that they find in public.

                    Great going Britain!

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

under normal circumstances I would agree, but they have already shown how ignorant they are.

Respectfully, I agree with you that our "common sense" gun laws are a step in that direction, but I don't think too many Americans would stand for it. Though, that being said, we let all sorts of other things get by that we really should fight against. We're a comfortable lot, here, and sometimes I think, as a people, we let too many things go and too many of our liberties get picked away. Though we have taken a step in that direction, I think the end destination is still up to the people to decide, including the decision to let moron elected officials decide for us.

I remember when Australia went gun free (or as gun free as they could legislate for) and there was a slogan they used: "Don't Americanize Australia." Or something to that effect.

Personally, as with most or all of us on this site, I would hate to see it come to that in the U.S. Seeing as there are just so many guns in the country, I don't think we'll ever be "Britainized."

you guys are missing one point to this, it isnt about him finding a gun. the reason he is in trouble is because he went to a police station with said gun in a bag and then opened it up and put it onto the table. Try that here in the U.S. at any police station and you wouldnt live long enough to go to trial for your stupidity.

he could have easily called and had someone pick it up or even could have told the person he talked to on the phone why exactly he was coming in but in his own words:

"I didn't know what to do, so the next morning I rang the Chief Superintendent, Adrian Harper, and asked if I could pop in and see him.

"At the police station, I took the gun out of the bag and placed it on the table so it was pointing towards the wall."

But he was arrested for possessing a gun.
