Unfortunate, but technically he true. What a moron to think that the best way to handle the situation was to do what he did. Also, I like that he called it a "shorn-off" shotgun

Sounds like the perfect case for the jury to overrule a stupid law.

I guess so. I want to give the guy the BOTD though. We know how the media twists things here, and the story makes it sound like he did a stupid thing. For all we know he told the officer that he found a gun and it was in the bag and the officer told him to take it out. I'm just saying that we don't have all the info. That's all.

We're a comfortable lot, here, and sometimes I think, as a people, we let too many things go and too many of our liberties get picked away. Though we have taken a step in that direction, I think the end destination is still up to the people to decide, including the decision to let moron elected officials decide for us.

I remember when Australia went gun free (or as gun free as they could legislate for) and there was a slogan they used: "Don't Americanize Australia." Or something to that effect.

Personally, as with most or all of us on this site, I would hate to see it come to that in the U.S. Seeing as there are just so many guns in the country, I don't think we'll ever be "Britainized."
Just wondering how you and others see this turning out when it does come to this.. Yes there are a lot of gun owners out there but what do you see happening.. Just curious.

It's a sad day for us ex-pats living here, reading and hearing what has become of our ancesteral homeland.

Whats even worse is that people must think of us as a nation of idiots, which I hate to say , reading stuff like this, I think is quite true...........

            That's why we're here lad. That's why we're here.

Max him out. Five years prison. Let him serve as an example.

Sadly, many judges think that way, even here.

bans of any kind-prohibition of any kind- never has worked and never will
common sense legislation could work with guns, drugs etc HOWEVER common sense and politics rarely meet.
i agree it will be harder to ban all firearms here, but it doesn't mean they won't keep trying. we must remain vigilant or we are as screwed as our friends in the UK

I can assure you the people in control in the US will absolutely bring about the same level of gun control if we do not stop them. Plain and Simple.

He should have left it for a kid to find or another "bad guy" to use it on someone else.

If the Obamanites had thier way, this would be happening here.

                          Might want to rephrase that.

The British government never ceases to amaze anyone....

There's quite a few of us here that are fairly amazing too...........

I am well past simply 'appalled'.....there are really no good words to describe a 'miscarriage of justice' at that level.

Try to understand that five year sentence in perspective. How many of you remember the 'Dan White' case here in California?

Mr White was sentenced to a five years term in prison for murdering two people. The alleged reason for 'clemency' in sentencing was the so-called 'Twinkie Defence'.

                            sadly

It could get that bad here and it will get that bad here...

The politicians find it reprehensible that anyone should own a gun to defend their hard earned wages and freedoms against corrupt public officials, hence they want to ban our guns...

Let us not forget how we gained those freedoms from jolly old england

                              With Guns!!
