If you can count the amount of ammo in your stockpile, even by box or spam can, you don't have enough. The retail and surplus ammo supplies are growing more expensive and limited every month. Buy now while you still can afford it.

How much ammo do you guys keep....

I use to think the guys who stock 50k or more rounds of ammo were fools. The entire VietCong stash on Hamburger Hill was only 75k rounds and they had a whole regiment guarding that hill
So keeping that many rounds was just begging for someone to take it. But.....
That was before ammo went through the roof. It was not too long ago when Wolf 5.56 was only $100 per 1000, Wolf 7.62 was $80 per 1000, SA .308 was $140 per 980, Aussie .308 was $140 per $800. Even American Eagle was only $100 per 500. Now I am thinking those guys that stock up are very smart. I am hoping there will be a new wave of surplus ammo in. I want to see the days of 10 cents a round again.
As for me, I don't know how much I have but I know it is more than 10k total. Now I don't just put led down range for the hell of it. I have to make every round count

I haven't been shooting much in months, and I've recently gotten into reloading. Combine that with my desire to save on shipping and my getting lots of overtime in the winter = a very well-stocked pantry. I realized how bad (i.e. good) it had gotten when my wife asked me why I had started putting my ammo in her camera equipment closet rather than in my gun stuff closet...uh...turns out the gun stuff closet is full of ammo.
~6000 rounds of 7.62x54 (I really need a Dragunov)
~4000 rounds of 5.56 (mostly radway green from when Wideners had it for $125/720
~1000 rounds of .357 mag (Thanks to Midway and some good tips from Ivanimal)
~1500 rounds each of 9mm and 40sw (mostly wwb)
~250 rounds each of .45LC and .454casull
some random .308 and .223 match
a few hundred each of .17hmr and 22wmr

I feel strongly that the antis will go after cheap ammo as a way to curtail gun ownership without actually banning guns. So I bought a lifetime supply of ammo. That means I can now shoot 200 rounds per month until I'm 87 years old. (I'm currently only shooting at about half that rate, so hopefully I will live to be 137.)__________________

Yep, that's one of the things pushing my aquisition of 7.62x54R. I know that there are billions of rounds of the stuff sitting in warehouses, outhouses, and henhouses around the world, but as US, UN, and other inter-governmental agencies dangle massive loans in exchange for its destruction, I fear for the future availability.Originally posted by Amendment III feel strongly that the antis will go after cheap ammo as a way to curtail gun ownership without actually banning guns. I have to say those guys that predicted a couple of years back that ammo prices would go through the roof were right. guys who bought SA from AIM at $23 rebought some more at $40 even though they have tens of thousands of rounds.
I myself can't believe the ammo pool has ran dry, no .308 surplus can be found anywhere and it has been months and months. Sometimes I wonder if the wolf 7.62 and 5.56 will run out. Wolf 7.62 did run dry only to come back at 100% mark up.
If I had a place to store more ammo I would load up some more too.Comment

How much? Like I'm gonna tell you guys.

Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch: And the Lord spake, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to 3. No more. No less. 3 shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be 3. 4 shalt thou not count, nor either count thou 2, excepting that thou then proceed to 3. 5 is right out. Once the number 3, being the third number, be reached, then, lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.'Comment

You think that wasn't on purpose? When you're the only game in town for cheap (after Cheetah went under, Wolf and its relatives became the only real players), you don't have to be half the price of the other guys anymore.Originally posted by EricCartmannI myself can't believe the ammo pool has ran dry, no .308 surplus can be found anywhere and it has been months and months. I just got in 500 123gr 7.62x39mm projectiles, so I can finally start shooting the AK again regularly... those Tokarev tips I was using didn't feed too well.Primary author of gunwiki.net - 'like' it on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Gunwiki/242578512591 to see whenever new content gets added!Comment
