I have one and it's so fun to shoot. Well, it'd be more fun if it's 9mm, but still...

The GSG5 has the tacticool look that you are paying for. Unfortuantely, I doubt any of them will last for 100,000 rounds. Made of pot metal. Not many made since it was only in production for a few years. Parts will be difficult to find. Not a simple dissassembly procedure.

The german company making them will still be in business the company that was sued is ATI, the importer. GSG will continue to make guns like the GSG5 and sell them in countries other than the United States.

These sure are fun! No recoil means rapid semi-auto fire is on target shot after shot. I'm taking every precaution to make mine last as long as possible...I put in aftermarket screws and loctite, I'm keeping clean each shoot and lubing properly. Also, I've heard mixed things about the possible future of this gun in the US. According to rumor and speculation, it's possible GSG (or someone else, for that matter) may find a way to bring in a similar carbine, whether it be a HK licensed look alike, or a non HK-styled clone...too successful of a product to abandon altogether. I'm not inclined to expect an increase in value, though. We'll just have to wait and see about all of it!

They are great when they work, but are very poorly engineered.

My 2nd generation GSG-5 had these issues within 1,500 rounds:
1) Light strike problem where 1 out of 8 rounds would go click but no bang - had to modify the firing pin and trim the return spring to fix this issue
2) Had a bad problem where 1 out of 5 casings would get smashed instead of ejecting - my riveted ejector plate was loose, had to smash that rivet down good and load on some super glue to fix. The rivet is made of a soft metal, which is actually supposed to be the fix for this problem.... hence the poor engineering
3) The guide pins for the long bolt springs work themselves loose as they only had a drop of blue locktite from the factory holding them in, and repeated tightening stripped one of them since they are made of softer metal then they probably should be - even red locktite wouldn't hold them anymore so I had to go with JB weld to fix

Ammo would be a better investment. Hey, they are not making anymore POGs, Ford Pinto's or Palm Pilots. Let me know how much you want to "invest" in them and I'll round some up for you.

So, parts would need to be imported. Sounds very time consuming and expensive.

Again, although I've pointed out a lot of negatives about the gun, I love mine and I'm not planning on selling it. It's really up to you to make your own informed decission. If you are only planning on having one SA .22lr rifle, get the 10-22. But, if you want a GSG5 and can get one at a great price, it's your choice. Just don't plan on it out lasting your grandchildren like a 10-22 will.

I have ZERO experience with centerfire MP5 clones. I've only shot H&K MP5s in 10mm and one H&K MP5K in 9mm. The K had a can on it and all of them have been select fire. I really like the 10mm ones with double tap and full speed ahead much better than the "K" with a can. The "K"s just don't do it for me. Anyway, look around and do some research before investing a lot on one.

I second the SR22. I wanted a GSG5, but I think i'll got the SR22 that is based off proven Ruger 10/22. Same price range also.

What are everyones thoughts on the GSG 5? Seriously thinking about purchasing one of these before they are discontinued... Anyone recommend a local place to pick one of these up cheap ( San Jose/South Bay area.. ) ... Cheapest I could see online is 420 + 65 DROS/transfer = 485.......

If your in the San Jose /south bay area. Rogers relics will transfer for 65$. AFAIK Lisa and Roger are closed on Wednesday and the weekends.

Build an AR lower and get a 22 dedicated upper. Might be a bit more altogether but IMO it opens more options, especially in a SHTF situation.

I stopped worrying about what guns cost years ago. If you want it buy it, and keep it. The cost becomes nothing over time. I have one and am modding he hell out of it and could not care less what it costs. It is fun. I like fun. Fun is good.
