    lasik surgery

Anyone been nearsighted and had lasik to correct your vision?
Did it have a negative or positive effect on your shooting? I heard someone say that it caused a problem with quick change of focus between front sight balde and target.

    1892,

I had lasik done, it was great for 5 years, then my eyes "healed" back to the way they were before the surgery. But that is very rare, but with my luck I should have figured Id be so lucky.

As for effect on shooting it had none. Really enjoyed it while it lasted. But couldn't tell a diffrence (Vision wise) between it, glasses, or contacts. Although its nice not to worry about corective lenses.

What is your age? If you are young I say go for it, if you are 30+ dont, as you will need reading glasses sometime around age 40.

Ditto. They also don't push the fact that your lens are more fragile after the surgery -- forever -- the cornea doesn't scar, that's how they can do it at all. I wouldn''t want to be exposed to magnum muzzle blasts and debris and such with loose corneal lenses.

two guys at work had it done recently and love it.

Personally I don't mind glasses; i know it's pretty safe but why take a chance?

When my wife had lasik, her far vision was perfect, but she lost more of her close vision. Now she has to use her reader glasses just to see her sights, one reason why she likes shooting through scopes better.

I have a friend that had laser eye correction. He was supposed to get a big insurance settlement and move to Hawaii. That never happened, maybe he figured living one place was as good as another if your blind.

I have wanted to get lasik but have never had the nerve to "pull the trigger" no pun intended. I would rather deal with glasses and contacts instead of walking sticks and seeing eye dogs.

I got lasik a couple of months ago and I like it. I have 20/15 or better vision in my left eye and my right is 20/20. Even though my right is "20/20", i still dont see perfectly. Its slightly fuzzy but Id still say its way better than having ****ty vision and having to depend on fragile and easy to fall off glasses. I wish my left eye was the dominant one, that thing is like High-Def to the max.

Ive gone shooting a couple times with it and I dont think I noticed any serious focus problems but I will pay more attention to it next time and let you know. I may even go shooting tomorrow.

I had lasik about six or seven years ago with good results. Night vision isn't as good as it was with glasses and I do see starbursts and halos at night, but day vision is great. I don't really notice the artifacts at night anymore and it has never impaired me. Overall I'm very happy with the results and it's about the same as I had with contacts, although not quite as good as with glasses.

I have noticed more difficulty switching from near to far focus lately but suspect that has more to do with my age (38) than lasik, as I didn't have this problem back when I had it done.

My wife (40) had lasik around the same time and says it's as good as glasses for her.

HOWEVER, this is surgery and should be taken very seriously. Find a reputable doctor, check their references and do your research. Make sure your doctor will be the one performing the procedure and isn't just overseeing a technician. I even went as far as doing each eye a couple days apart. Do all your followup to the letter.

Had it done 10+ years ago. No issues to speak of.

Many surgeons will correct people to 20/15 and pat themselves on the back. Unfortunately, while their far vision is great, their near visions suffers.

The patient may not notice it at first because their eyes can adjust and focus on those things that are near. But as we age, our eyes lose the ability to focus so reading glasses are usually necessary at some point.

The more far sighted a surgeon corrects a patient, the sooner they will need reading glasses..... generally speaking.

Had it done about 6 years ago, lost my up close vision which I knew would occur due to my age. I found some of my old glasses last weekend and put them on. I am so glad I had the surgery.

me here. literally on end of 7th week today! no regrets. was 20/15'ish on my left eye and 20/15 on the dot on my right after 2 weeks. my next appointment is next month. good thing i waited since they had new machine (wave light) since i had my consult last year's sept. no regrets and just like everyone else, i ask "why did i wait so long!" i had ZERO issues in the first week or two, no itchiness, no burning, etc. the itchiness didn't start until 2+ weeks. i also found out i'm sensitive to dehydration. found out after cycling 60 miles that my left eye was completely blurry. went away that evening and fully back to normal the next day. but doc said i have to drink a lot and do drops constantly (was doing drops every hr on 60 miles bike ride). so i drink like 3-3.5L per day, which is good. but the sensitivity made me miss my last motorcycle race since i had to have a way to drive home (pulling off the race track is easy, but i don't want to be sitting in infineon until night time when the eyes go back normal).

go at it. my experience was very good. same with a co-worker who had his in april. i still see starbursts but less halo. kinda feels like tired eyes at night or contacts on the whole day. but no issue driving. i've only gone to the range once since surgery, after 4 weeks or so (was very busy, not because of surgery). doc says i coudl've shot 3 days from surgery, no issue. doing my padi certiifcation, no issues being in the pool either. will be in ocean next week and ocean water is much easier on eyes than cholorinated pool!

i am realistic however that as i get older (38 yrs today) i'll need reading glasses. but i did wait (and wait) until my vision was very stable, which is same for last 5 years or so, plus waiting for better/newer technology.

read up a lot on who will do it. also had another colleague in TX who had his with same surgeon was his wife. i can't believe he came out 20/400 5 days later, but still healing. that while his other eye is 20/20. something there didn't sound right, but he says he can see fine. so research teh doctor. as much as i hate to say it, the good ones, really good ones, are expensive.

Thats pretty interesting about your dehydration issue. Why is it that our vision can be sensitive like this now that we have had the surgery? I notice that sometimes my eyes seem a bit "tired" as well and the vision isnt as sharp. Its been like that lately but it seems to be getting better. I see my DR on November 5, just a few weeks before I hit my 3 month mark.

Is your vision High def so to speak? My left eye is just awesome and my right one seems to be slightly blurry at all distances. Its as if there is a film over my eye or something. However I notice when I make a peep hole with my hand, my vision is very clear. The moment I open up my hand It fuzzes up a bit. If my right eye was as crisp as my left it would be VERY awesome.

friend got it back in 06
do your research, ask different doctors/offices how they do it, what do they do it with etc. my friend was telling me about how he had asked about what kind of blade they use etc.
Some offices even let you watch people getting it done.
his cost was about 2k i think with no interest and a payment plan.

at first it was better than 20/20 but now its just 20/20 he said.
