Exactly. This kind of "squirreling away for a rainy day" mindset only hurts fellow gun owners. You can blame rising ammo prices on Obama, the economy, 962 and anything else you can think of, but in the end it's been mostly the hoarding/panic buying that's caused the current shortage and price increases.
And judging by the response to the passage of AB 962, in CA it's going to be Deja Vu all over again.sigpicNRA Life Member.Comment

One can only presume that those who use Ab962 as an excuse simply haven't done any reading of the content of the bill. I haven't seen any regulations in terms of how much ammunition someone can buy. What, is it the threat of having to leave a thumbprint behind? Why panic? Have any of those who hoard ammunition and subsequently create a mindless panic with their baseless fears ever read any of the posts written by the very slick guys behind the Calguns Foundation? Apparently not.Exactly. This kind of "squirreling away for a rainy day" mindset only hurts fellow gun owners. I am so sick of reading about the "I got Mine" mentality. It's nauseating. Let me make a prediction: All of you guys who are buying so much ammunition will be begging the rest of us to take it off your hands a few years hence.
And by the way, I virtually never buy centerfire ammunition. I'm a firm proponent of loading my own and will occasionally buy .22 rimfire when I see a reasonable deal.Last edited by prob; 10-15-2009, 10:52 PM.Comment

then why cry about it? I welcome the coming deals since I can't afford to stock up. Or we might just end up lamenting the days of $32 .45 acp bulk packs like we do the days of $20 surplus 7.62 battlepacks.

While I would rather not give up the information,it's not like they don't already have it already. Every time you buy a gun you give up this info (including the thumb prints). And with handguns (the guns the in AB 962 ammo is supposed to be used for) your info is saved in a federal data base too.One can only presume that those who use Ab962 as an excuse simply haven't done any reading of the content of the bill. Gents, we need to think about life in a post AB 962 world and that will be giving up the required information, like it or not. Is this a part of a "greater conspiracy" where this is the first step in complete disarming? I don't subscribe to that notion (yet) and will wait to see what is coming down the road.
I also am probably one of the only Cal Gunners that does not believe in the need to stock pile 1,000,000 rounds of ammo either, so maybe this is why I am able to say this.Last edited by joepamjohn; 10-16-2009, 9:11 AM."You can't handle the truth"Comment

?????? I thought there was only a K-mart in Taft??
The Wal-mart shelves in Bako (Bakersfield) are typically bare. I DID find some ammo Wednesday morning (stopped by at 6am when they opened). Got some 45 HD, 9mm HD and some 9mm target rounds. From the look of the line (again this was at 6am) they were surely oos by 7AM.sigpic

I think you may be missing the point. The point is:One can only presume that those who use Ab962 as an excuse simply haven't done any reading of the content of the bill. 1. They are taking your prints and info EVERY TIME you buy ammo. Now the Government will have a record of how much ammo you have. If you have too much, well then your the crazy gun guy that needs watching.
2. You will be on a list for them to check each time a firearm goes off in your area. Hey, this guy bought some 9mm, lets look into him.
OK taking my tin-foil hat off.
3. You will NO LONGER be able to mail order, so the local store will be jacking there prices up AGAIN. Simple supply and demand.
4. Most likely Wal-Mart will discontinue selling ammo due to the increased paperwork/procedures involved by fingerprinting everyone. They couldn't handle firearms, ammo will be no different. In case you were not aware, Wal-Mart is THE least expensive local option in most cities in California.
5. Ammo prices WILL go up. They always do. What's the problem with buying your ammo now, at a lower price to last you a long time??
I also reload for every caliber firearm I own (except for the rimfires of course). But, I'm a firm believer in having FACTORY ammo for Home Defense rounds. Both for reliability as well as legal issues that could come up from using your home grown ammo in a home defense situation. It is good to train/practice with the ammo that you keep in your HD guns. How can you do this if you can't get that ammo or it's too expensive??
End of my rant.
OP, nice score!! I would have done the same. It's the guys buying it all up, then jacking the prices and selling it that erk me.

Has nothing to do with quantity. People simply feel that their rights are being violated and have no interest in some absurd process involving record collecting and thumb printing to buy ammunition. One can only presume that those who use Ab962 as an excuse simply haven't done any reading of the content of the bill. Yes, we have a K-Mart in Taft and they don't stock handgun ammunition.?????? I thought there was only a K-mart in Taft??

However, I was in Bakersfield on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and was able to purchase ammunition at the Easthills Walmart as well as the Rosedale Walmart. I checked back at the Easthills location in the afternoon when I got off of work Tuesday and they still had .40. Wednesday morning they had 9 and .40 as well as some .357.
Also, on Wednesday morning when I went to the Rosedale location there was still plenty of .40 and 9 and it was well after 7AM.

How often have you been checking/looking for ammo in Bakersfield? I too got some ammo Wed morning at opening. I was second in-line and guys behind me waiting to get ammo. Both me and the guy in front of me bought our 6 boxes and left. From what they had on the shelves, I would have thought it all would be gone in minutes. The other guys must have not gotten there 6 box quota. lolYes, we have a K-Mart in Taft and they don't stock handgun ammunition.

It's unfortunate they took down the "What's in stock at your local walmart thread". Maybe we could PM eachother if we see ammo in-stock. I'm on the lookout for 9mm and 45ACP.sigpic

All I've done is grab ammo last Tuesday and Wednesday because I picked up my P2000 and I wanted to get stocked up. Going out tomorrow to shoot that and my new T/C Triumph to gear up for M7 this year. Anyway, I wasn't at either one right when they opened--just got lucky I guess. I saw plenty of 9mm at both locations on Wednesday and plenty of 40. A guy in front of me on Wednesday at the Rosedale location bought 3 boxes of 45 HP's like I mentioned earlier. I don't live in Bakersfield but I work over there on occasion...so I just try to pop in if I get a minute. How often have you been checking/looking for ammo in Bakersfield?
