If you are going to use a phone bill it has to be a landline phone, not a cell phone.

EDIT: I see you already know that.
      Please, calm down.

Any utility bill that is for a service to a place of residence. You can also use a vehicle registration or write up a lease agreement with whoever you are living with. Cell phone bills aren't acceptable.

edit: Those things have to match the address on your DL or the change of address certificate.

Thanks guys, it's a question for my girlfriend, she's going to buy her first handgun and doesn't have any car reg, nor any utility bills with her name on it besides a regular land line phone.

            Thanks again guys.

              Address verification suggestion

How about using the name & address shown on your Guns & Ammo magazine subscription? Just kidding - haven't checked that one on the DOJ site.

I hope that your girl friend enjoys her first gun. Just emphasize the safety aspect as I've seen new gun users pointing at other range shooters. And I know that getting a first gun doesn't mean a person is a new shooter -- just want to protect a few people if applicable.

I didn't need any proof of residence for either the receiver or the shotgun I bought.

You only need it if you buy a handgun.

Ditto. Learned that when I first bought my receivers though I hear Big 5 requires it. Store policy I guess.

When I lived at home,(with no bills in my name) I used to use my bike registration, which I carried a copy of in my wallet. After I got my own place, I used my directv bill, now I just use my gas bill.

Bike or motorcycle? I used my motorcycle registration and now use a lease agreement since I still don't have any bills in my name.

                          Car/motorcycle registrations work.

You need MORE than a DL/ID for residence? I never have...

When you purchase handguns yes but not when you purchase rifles. It is law and is also in the Handgun pamphlet.

I have gone through this before. Here are acceptable items for proof of residency.
                              1. Land line phone bill
                              2. Cable or internet bill. Satellite DOES NOT WORK!
                              3. Signed copy of your lease agreement
There are others but these are the best I have used.
