Not necessarily. I was more thinking just making the grips thinner. Although this would pose structural stability problems I think when using softer grips like those made from rubber.

Or perhaps making the grips of a more sturdy material and opening the mag well up to just shy of the width of the frame + grips.

I wasn't thinking of making it permanent. It was more about how to load it if perhaps significant modification to the frame made removing the magazine problematic.
