A funny thing happened at the pawn shop today...

My day of shooting at angeles got bumped yesterday due to my shooting partners house getting in a car accident!....so I got bored and hit up martin b .retting, then Big 5 and then this pawn shop in the area. I did not see any rifles in the pawn shop, but when I asked, out they came, 1 at a time. A typical selection of old hunting guns and .22's. When he was done, he asked if I like "automatics"?, you can bet I said uh-huh, so out he brings a nice romanian AK!!. I almost sh#t my pants!. I pull the 10 round clip out and check the chamber, notice the rifle is in excellent condition, and even has a side scope rail!. I ask "how much?", and he says $200.00!!! . I just started laughing....as I handed it back to him. I then explained that it was an AW and he can only sell out of state, I could have cried!!. Just another slap in the face from the lefty pussies in sacramento.

Did you even check to see if it was off-list?

All he would need to do is pull the pistol grip off and it might have been legal.

Why does this story remind me of the ending to "Dumb and Dumber?"

If it was offlist and if indeed the pistol grip was still attached, I would have asked him to take the thing off and wait for me while I hit up the nearest ATM!

I'd go back and buy it in legal configuration if your big mouth didn't already ruin the offer.

Romanian AK parts kits are $100.00, whats all the hub-bub?. What AK's are NOT LISTED and legal w/o a pistol grip and flash supressor in california?, none I bet. Anyway, how in the hell can you buy it?, once he sends the paperwork into caldoj it would get kicked out!. If you wanna try and get it , just send me an email for the info. I have an AK already and have too much to lose. Now if it had been a AR or CAR15......that's another story, I would have bought it and disassembled it on the spot and handed him back the receiver!..

Um lots of AK style rifles are legal without a grip and falshider.Have you been paying attention to what has been going on for the last year?$200 for an AK patern rifle is a steal(if it is truly an offlist),you should go back and check asap.

Forgive me, I meant to say "what production post ban AK type rifles are legal in cali" . I know it can be built with a new receiver by you guys that have the brains to weed your way thru gun laws. I just don't see how this rifle w/o pistol grip could ever be legal in cali w/o a new receiver, then like I said, romanian ak parts kits are $99. and change .....Am I missing something?. The only thing I wanted was the side rail. I am not challenging anyone on this, I just do not see the value vs risk.

Look at the list of banned firearms http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/infobuls/kaslist.pdf

If the receiver model number is not on that list then it would be legal to purchase without the evil features

The Pawnshop guy probably doesn't even DROS. He's old school and if you would have paid him the $200, he would have asked " Paper or plastic or do you just want to carry it to your car? LOL

You don't know much about off list receivers, or how the DROS system works, do you?

Tons of AKs are legal to build. Look into it. Do a search on Calguns.

Long gun informaiton is not sent when submitting a DROS, the only thing that is sent is your info, and the note that it is pertaining to the sale of one or more long guns.

You may think you just caught the dealer with his pants down, but you're just showing your lack of understanding of the law.. Plus you missed out on a potentially great deal on an AK style rifle.

Tis true, I am not up to speed on OLL's cuz I am not into building one at this time , but I know they can be built. I probably could have gotten the rifle, but where could I shoot it without possibly getting in trouble when they ask for my registration?.Sure, I could have switched receivers and all that, but why not build from a parts kit?. For me it is not worth the risk or hassle, I have a nice registered AK and am happy. Not everyone has to ride the razors edge at all times and push the envelope, that is for you braver types!. A better lad will buy it and do great things with it!.
