    Personal attacks in the forum

I have only been around this site since April, so I was wondering what some of the other members thought could be the reason behind why so many threads get so personal?

I come here to this forum to try and relax and to stroll thru postings looking for things to possibly buy or sell, but mostly I enjoy (most times) reading thru the postings on any given topic to try and gain knowledge and share in experiences that so many of you all have encountered.

The problem I see is many times we can't all "play well" together and to me that should not be a problem here since we all have many of the same things in common, hence our existence on this forum.

I am as passionate as the next guy and like to speak my word. That is the nice thing about this forum, you can speak your word, provided you do so with at least an attempt of tact. I try to avoid confrontation and many times re-edit my posts many times as soon as I enter them just so I will hopefully not come across as being personal to others postings. I am not perfect by I do try.

Kestryll has listed as (c) in his rules:You many disagree, but keep it civil.

What is not clear about this? This is the most abused rule in this forum.Yet so many times, I see blatant personal attacks in threads that are total defiance of this one rule alone. The Moderators, or Kestryll himself are then needed to add comments to bring back order. Why is that?

I see attacks for spelling ,grammar, (probably are some here) perceived silly or stupid comments, or just plain bully antics,Why is that?

Don't we all come here to enjoy our sports, hobbies, etc.? Why can't we speak about current events (as sad as they may be) without jumping down each others throats? There are so many anti 2nd. Ammendment forces against us all, why are we against each other too? I know this may sound real corny.

I know some postings are off the wall, but if the only thing your fingers can type in reply is negative and personal then don't add to it or take your differences to PM or email.

The point of this thread (hopefully) is to get people talking about frustrations or differences of opinions before they become personal so this forum will police itself, and is more user friendly. I would much rather see the admin folks chime in with their thoughts about a forum topic, rather than need them to throw cold water on the rest of us because we are misbehaving yet again.

I hope that these thoughts make sense to some of the members since these issues have been a problem that to at least me seem to be getting worse.

And I hope there has not been a thread about this topcic already since I could not find one in the search area.

Please add comments. I don't think I had to say that.

    Thanks for reading.

b/c we are humans, and by design we hate and like to kill each other.

Seems to be commonplace on internet BBS forums dealing with all subjects. I think some of it comes from people wanting to look smarter or cooler than the next guy. Also, it is a chance for certain types to be ballsy about their opinion where they might not be in the meat world.

Lastly, sometimes I think it comes down to poor written communication skills. Some people write like they speak and without proper wording, can come off like a jackass or their meaning is just completely lost on the reader.

        joepamjohn,

Some people are just a-holes (in real life and at a keyboard). They are just not capable of leaving it at the door. But I think that mostly this forum is a great place to talk about ideas and to get advice about gun related stuff. Take the off-topic postings with a grain of salt.

          OP: you missed a comma.

But here's what I have to say about that:

People want to bring people down to under there own level. It makes them feel superior... I think.

                  BITE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, sometimes it's hard to tell a personal attack from joking around unless you know all the players. Yea, HotRails is right and some people here (myself included) can be a bit gruff or opinionated but, for the most part, this forum does a fairly good job of not allowing real personal attacks to stay posted or those who post attacks to go unpunished.

Probably the thing I find most difficult to forgive is the constant carping at "newbies" here. As if the number of posts on calguns.net somehow proves your intellect.

If you believe that, take a tour through the off topic board. Literally hundreds of posts of no value. That runs up the old post count and really proves how much knoweldge some folks have.

The only reason I spell/write wrong is because I have big monkey fingers and I type with two fingers and one thumb. sometimes the wrong key gets tapped.

I think some people think they're better than others or they think their opinion is the only one that should matter or simply some people are keyboard tough guys and the way they feel better is by demeaning others.
Some people feel powerful when they have a gun in their hand or when they own guns and impotent when they don't.

For the most part most members I've dealt with have been great guys to deal with. Face to face they have been great and I think a lot of the machismo that's there when in front of a computer tends to get minimized when you're in a actual public setting.

I also think sometimes the wrong person feels they are being attacked by what someone posted so they get riled up and here you go your typical internet fistfight. I personally don't take 99% of the stuff said on here personally

you are dumb! not really. i find this pretty interesting the OP suggests using PM's are they not more anonymous than posting it in the open forum ? i Love to argue and i find that the dumbest things come out of people who are unsure of themselves. like the "oh yea i was there" "you are too young" "what do you know about anything" "try it yourself" figure your point out and defend it with a statement of fact. the problem is people get emotional and it is ridiculous. like the boss who yells or the parent that freeks out. also i think im a hell of a lot nicer on line than i am in person. i think it is because i dont get any satisfaction unless i can see the reaction in your face . wow the sounded bad . and i cant spell either or use punctuation or paragraphs bahhh whatever

I would totally mess with you about your spelling and grammar, but since you have the word "assassin" as part of your user name, I shall refrain.
